For those of you that are about to open, have you already received your Smart Tan certification? For those of you that are already open, did you get certified before or after you opened?

We got certified months before opening. I wanted to sound professional and knowledgeable to every client that walked through the door. I am so glad we did. So many other issues to deal with that at least when they asked questions about skin typing, how long to tan, how long to get tan, differences in levels of beds etc.etc.) I sounded like I knew what I was talking about. I love it when someone tells me that so and so let them tan the full time and they got burned up. I point to my Smart Tan Certification and explain how we take tanning seriously, attend workshops, read everything we can get our hands on and attend trade shows to learn the latest in research, technology etc. I may be wrong but I think people respect this.

I want people to know that I didn't just throw some beds in room and open the doors.

We purchased an existing salon. After running the salon for about 1 1/2 months, we went and got certified with Smart Tan. Either way, before or after opening, will would strongly suggest getting some kind of specialized training. This clears up a lot of misconceptions that you and your employees may have. It also shows your clients that you are serious about tanning and how it effects them, not just the cash!!

Getting started in the tanning business, where do you go and get smart tan certified? Can you do it right over the internet?

Yes, I think you can now. www.smarttan.com But if you go to the trade shows you can do it there as well.

ps. are you a distributor? If not, you need to change your icon.

We got certified before we opened the salon. I found it to be very educational...especially when your a newbie to the tanning industry.
