I have been kicking around the idea of music in each room. As you know some beds come with am/fm cd players etc. and others do not. How do you handle music in the rooms when it is not part of the bed. I have seen a few different set-ups and don't know which way to go. Boom Boxes can be stolen and they look like an after thought in a nice salon. Plus the fact that users are sharing headphones and if their not using headphones the volume of a 15 bed salon with individual boom boxes can get very loud. How about providing music from the front desk and installing speakers in the walls with a master volume control? The only draw back is everyone gets the same station or cd. Not sure what to do on this one. Any help would be great.

I found it easiest, to do the boom box thing in each room, mine have am/fm/ cd players and tape decks. I haven't had one stolen yet, because they are kinda hard to walk out with. I don't provide headphones but customers can bring their own if they desire.

I have one stereo that is kept behind the counter. All of the rooms are wired to the main stereo and their are speakers and a volume control knob mounted in the walls in each room. So far, it has worked. Nothing stolen, nothing broken. And, you don't hear 15 different stations coming from each room as you are walking down the hall.

Small radios with cassette in each room. I prefer to allow the customers to decide what they are in the mood to listen to or to not listen to anything at all.

I too use one stereo kept behind the counter. I keep it on a station that does a mix of light rock, pop music. Seems to work pretty well. Occasionaly I will have a client ask for country and if the salon isn't packed I will change the station.

I never tan with headphones since it causes the ears to not tan. Also, I am concerned about the sanitation of the headphones. I'm always worried I'll catch something that lots of people are using and it's not being sanitized.

If you go with in the room CD's or Boomboxes, be wary of the headphones. It could be a breeding ground for lice. You wouldn't want to have to cause additional stress on yourself if it's not necessary. And you know... you all are the boss. I would insist that clients keep the volume down. I once had a salon tell me I had the radio too loud and asked me to turn it down the next time I tanned. They were very polite about it and it was never an issue again. Don't be afraid to set limits.

I have speakers in each room with the stereo system up front. I can play the radio or CD's. I have a CD player that holds a bunch of CD's & I just put it on random so you get a mix.

When I replace the speakers, I'll get the kind that go in the wall with a volume control. Everyone is different & YOU WILL NEVER PLEASE EVERYBODY. Some like it louder & some don't want any music at all!

We use boom boxes in all the rooms, but suddenly they are all breaking at once. I am now considering the one stereo with speakers in the rooms, I think in the long run I'll save on money and cleaning.
