Rep Power: 0 | Hello everyone! I have a question. My partner and I are planning to open a new salon in Jan. We have been doing research on everything for the last couple months and have collected alot of information. The big question that we can't seem to find an answer to is, in what order do you do everything? ie: location, financing, equiptment, etc. We are alittle stuck at this point and would appreciate any information anyone could offer. Thank you so much!!! |

Rep Power: 0 | You need preliminary numbers of lease costs, buildout and equipment before you can approach anyone for financing. Once you know you can get the proper financing, look for a good location. You also need to do alot of research into competition and demographics in your area. Once you have the location the fun begins. making final arrangements for buildout and equipment deliveries are just the beginning.Good luck with you endeavors! Rep Power: 0 | Are you expanding or new? I suggest the following if your new:1. Buy an existing business to get your feet wet.1.1 Find one for sale.1.2 Check the competition in that area.1.3 Check the demographics in the area to see if the business can be supported.1.4 Back off if strong competition and inexperienced, or no demographic support.1.5 Proceed if risk acceptable. Estimate capital required and obtain financing approval.1.6 Buy business, negotiate new lease.2.0 Expanding2.1 Estimate capital and get approved financing.2.2 Find location based on demographics and pricing.2.3 Buildout location. Open.I'm going through the new process as we speak. Just my thoughts. Good luck. |

Rep Power: 0 | I have to say that you are on the right track. Within this board are some of the most competant people in the industry. For industry averages you should try to get your hands on a magazine like Today's Image. I believe that the latest issue has a lot of that information, that is fairly accurate and up to date. You also need to find the book "The Tanning Bible" by Frank Darling. In there he has so many ideas on the industry, and enviroment. He also has tips on opening a salon, marketing and runnning a salon. I've been in the business for a long time now, and I'm still learning ideas from this man.- Nik |

Rep Power: 0 | This board is great. I'm following Nik and ProfitMaster replies as we speak. For local demographics, I use the city Chamber of Commerce and local Town Halls. They exist for small businesses such as ourselves. If they don't have the information, they know where to get it, if it exists.By the way, I'm impressed with your effort. Your taking a serious, text book style, approach. Don't be afraid to overlook something. It happens to all of us. Cover the basics, and don't try to be finite with your information.Good Product+Accessability+Customers=SuccessI 'm a newbie to tanning, but not business. |
