Re: CONSULTANTS??? Do you use

I'm going to go with location, size of surrounding area. More tanners = more money. (if done right)

Not if your costs go up as much or more than you sales. You also are not working in a static environment. salons will open and close and improve or not right along with you. New competition can hurt you badly, whether they are good or not, regardless of your "marketing strategy".

% of increase isn't that impressive, what are the real $ numbers.

June 2012 = $150 in sales + 160% = $390 for June 2013, that 160% increase still sucks.

Now if you tell me they did $20,000 in June 2012 & now it's $52,000 that's impressive!

Also did a competitor open in 2012? Did a competitor close in 2012 or 2013?
Yes, the dermatology industry uses the same number games on the general public to scare them away from indoor tanning (remember- 75% increase in melanoma vs non indoor tanning)

If in truth the main thing you did was to change their pricing strategy, as YOU said, then the real increase should be in their APC. So what was your impact on that number?

We did not increase operating cost. We created a price structure that allowed us to increase sales without increasing tanners. Also because of the new price structure we had a wider variety of packages to market through email text and social media.

Increasing sales and profit is obviously not for everyone. For those that live their lives and operate their businesses playing the blame game instead of taking responsibility for their actions or failures, making changes that require you to own the result of your actions is not an option.

This thread is simply to point out that there are ways to actually increase sales while controlling operating cost. The down side is that you actually must properly and aggressively execute those changes.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. No need to be a casualty of a poor business model. Also remember a successful business model ten years ago may not be as effective today without changes.

Pointing out issues that are out of your control is never productive. Identifying issues that you can control and creating a positive solution takes a willingness to except and even embrace change.

There is another option. Do nothing, or the same thing that is creating the negative result that you are now experiencing.

This thread started with a salon owner looking for help. The salon owner got help and and got exactly what she was looking for. Assistance with turning her salon around. A nice positive happy ending.

Specifically, by how much did you increase this store's Average Sales Per Tanning Client compared to the same period last year and the year before?

Stating such numbers is utter nonsense. Its impossible to grow 160% on a reasonable salon unless competition closed. Its shear BS to the nth degree.

As far as consultants we have quite a bit of experince in our people and we dont actually charge for member assistance. I myself have helped many and given many the harsh reality. Sometimes things can be done sometimes they cant to fix a business.

Overall if u have no money to spend for growth u have no shot. Which is why so many businesses of all types fail and continue to fail in this non lending banking environment.

Lending has always been a problem for this industry. It is similar to the restaurant business; most new restaurants fail within 1 year of opening-so banks do not lend to newbies wanting to start one. That is also why the used equipment business is so robust in this industry. And in the future, it will be more robust in the tanning industry as well for the same reasons. Growth does not mean new equipment; it means different equipment or a different mix of equipment. I am constantly tinkering with the mix in my store.

Re: CONSULTANTS??? Do you use

Well i never used consultants and according to the opinion of many people consultants are required for giving such great and nice ideas that one may need anytime. But i always recommended my own ideas for everything.

Structure, marketing and execution. Salons do a lot more than $21K in June. Depends on your market, size of salon and business model.
