Free Tan Weekend
 

We are thinking of doing a free tan weekend for the 1st day of Spring and I just wanted to get your opinions on this. Do you like to do FTWs/have they worked for you in the past, why? Ideas for promos? So far I'm thinking in addition to the free tan...

• 30-50% off new membership promo and possibly waiving the initiation fee
• buy one get one 25-30% off on all lotions (since our lotions are already discounted)
• all lotions 20% off (won't do BOTH lotion deals, obviously; one or the other). Additionally, lotions 40% off with the purchase of a new membership (don't know about the %off membership fee if we do this deal)
• $15-$20 dollar Mystics (usually $25) and
• perhaps a free level upgrade.

I was just wondering if anyone could offer any advice as to any other potential promos we could implement (not all of these ideas will be used for the event, because we don't want to offer so much we end up losing money; just trying to come up with what would be most appealing to customers and generate the most revenue for us). It has worked for us the past few years. We are in a high traffic area with several salons (much bigger than ours) walking distance away from us. We do it the weekend after Thanksgiving and it gets our traffic up before the holiday season. We offer every UV bed for free which allows people who usually wont upgrade to see what they are missing out on. We have a MyMyst Mystic System and we discount that to $10 per spray any color...... All of our equipment is used non-stop that day, it gets people talking and trying us out, & we don't ask for any commitment from the customers. We are that confident in our services that we know we will gain customers. We discount all of our lotion 50% off and we give away T-Shirts to each customer. We may initially lose money on the T-shirts and discounted spray tans and lotion, but our client list increases drastically, and the amount of referrals we get from pleased customer's makes it a never fail promotion. We also lock in customers on holiday gift certificates for their family and then as we hit Spring time the traffic is heavy.......

But remember, those shirts become advertising for you (assuming people where them in public)

I think only good can come of a free tan weekend. I think its best to offer killer specials and discounts also to get people to commit and spend so you recoup the FREE tans.

If your just opening, or fairly new, the Free Tan Weekend is great.... Yeah, about 20% of the people are just using you for the free tans.... but whatever... It gets people talking, and wondering... You will sell ALOT of packages during it, because people are there, and its easier to make the sale... Just dont sell yourself short... People will come to EXPECT deals forever

Hmmm, it seems to me that most of the people that take advantage of free or dirt cheap tanning deals like these are toothless freeloaders that don't have or don't spend any money.

It brings the bottom feeders out in droves. Do a buy one get one free, so you at least get something in the til.

We just finished up a free tan week and I would guess that only a couple percent of the free tans were given to people who only wanted to tan for free and would never buy anything. At the very least those people had to purchase eyewear.

Must be a Wisconsin thing. Everyone seems to like it except we salon owners in Wisconsin. :P
