Re: No lotion??

40% doesn't get absorbed, usually takes about 6-7 minutes to begin to accept UV light.

Re: No lotion??

I heard at a lotion seminar from a lotion rep that it was 50% of the UV was reflected off the dry skin cells that peel up (acting like little mirrors) and bounce the light off and that lotion lays the cells down flat and makes them translucent so that 100%UV will be absorbed.
Thats the percentage I heard. Everybody exagerates tho....Who knows the real answer and how the figure was arrived at?
Lets hear cold hard facts and show us the data if there is any...

Re: No lotion??

That's enough Bull@%$% There is no real way of knowing what exact % is blocked. Humans shed skin on a monthly cycle, our skin peels in an upward motion and makes way for the fresh upcoming layers. I always explain this in away that people can relate. Take a piece of paper, pick an edge, roll it upright towards you, this is the way your skin naturally exfoliates. By not using an indoor tanning lotion, the skin that you are losing reflects the UV light. The % of UV light that is blocked depends on what stage your exfoliating cylce is at. If you were to exfoliate and then go for a tan, you would be removing your dead, dry skin cells and exposing your fresh upcoming layers. So you see one disty will tell you 30%, one will say 40%another will say 50% but I'am hear to tell ya thats all bull$#@%. It depends on the client and what kind of effort they put into skin care. Esunshine you cannot listen to everything your disty tells you. When I talk to them I always have a device on my ear that filters through the bull$#%

Re: No lotion??

Jojo You have said basically what I said though you seemed to have singled me out. I didnt start this thread I just made a comment about what I'd heard (which was different than all the other figures posted) and that I'd like to hear FACTS if there are any. We all would I think. Thats why we come to these forums. To learn more about the business we are in.
This one is about "no lotion". I agree that everyone needs to filter what they hear but when a major lotion rep, not distributor, tells 650 salon owners in the room those figures I used, arent we expected to use those same figures and not "make up our own" to sell more lotion to our customers? I also agree with your statement about the skin exfoliation cycle, but your skin doesnt just start and stop flaking off every thirty days, it happens a little at a time, all the time, everyday, no matter how well or poorly you exfoliate or take care of your skin. Actually according to the NTTI training manual It states "As the epidermis goes about renewing the horney layer(dead skin cells)it sheds the dried out cells at a rate of one million every forty minutes".
Good thing too,Otherwise we'd be like snakes and shed our skin in one piece. How gross would that be?

I do have a question for Dcjjp2. Where did you get your figures? If your statement were true why should people bother to only do 3/4/5/or 6 minutes to start in a tanning bed if they were not getting any UV accepted until 6 or 7 minutes had passed? That just doesnt make sense to me. Like jojo said, we need to filter what we hear or read. Plus, its good to talk about these things to help others and ourselves. Thats why we are here rght?

Re: No lotion??

This is a little gem I picked up from a lotion manufacturer many years ago. Whether it is true or not is subjective, but it does sell alot of lotion here and my clients are happy and have well conditioned skin.

Re: No lotion??

Esunshine I did not mean to single you out. You are 100% right with the info on this sight and that people come here to learn about this industry. On that note, the reason the vets & infomative people on this sight make negative comments or challange certain stats is so that the newbies do not get misinformed & forward that misleading information to the public.
