Question Lotions for sale at Flea Market

I Don`t know if any of you have this problem. Lotions sales for us suck. Lately my wife ask some of our tanners where they were getting their lotions. Most are buying their lotion at the flea markets. (10 packs for a buck and 1/2 salon cost on bottles) They said the lady had barrels of it. These are friends so we know they are not making this up. I didn`t worry about ebay sales because 1 bottle plus shipping did not save them much. Everyone in our area goes to flea markets.

How do I handle this problem. ......Thanks for any help!!!!!!

Re: Lotions for sale at Flea Market

Find out who this person is and report her to manufacturers, that might put a stop to her even getting the goop. although it's probably rancid disgusting 3 year old stuff.

Re: Lotions for sale at Flea Market

Yeah, are you sure its a "professional tanning lotion" and not items such as ocean potion or la express, stuff you get at discount stores. If it is, not much you can do about them selling it, but you ban it from your salon b/c it damages your acrylics.

Re: Lotions for sale at Flea Market

Been dealing with this 10+ years. Can't stop them.

Educate your clients that lotions that are out in the hot sun can breakdown. We still have some that buy it, but many have stopped, once the got some runny goo

Re: Lotions for sale at Flea Market

If there friends why would they support someone in selling lotions in such a manner....don't they realize it will effect your business......perhaps she closer her salon and is trying to sell off the lotions pray for it to be this temporary.....Explain to these clients....lotions sales go down tanning prices go up(in fancier friendlier whitter words of course!) Or go with the purple tanning story I tell my clients about a tanner who bought an ebay...its become an urban legend around here LOL

Re: Lotions for sale at Flea Market

Yep, like JSQ said, explain to them that if they continue to by at the flea markets, your tanning prices will be going up. In the end, they will not be saving anything.

Re: Lotions for sale at Flea Market

Yep! It is really nasty what some of the customers will walk in with. I won't lie...before I owned a salon I ONCE bought a bottle from Wal-Mart b/c I was broke.....needless to say, I lost color....hmmm....wonder why?

walmart's one thing, but buying from a flea market, god knows what the bottle has gone through before you poured it on your skin! yuck!

Re: Lotions for sale at Flea Market

Thanks everyone, I gained some insight from all the posts. I think we can handle it now. It is bed lotion though, but, you gave us some ideas how to handle it. Small town and everyone knows everyone. If you make one person mad, you lose half your business.

Shoot, I have two cousins went through a messy divorce; I be darn if the JUDGE still didn`t rule that although they are DIVORCED, she is (pertaining to the law) still his SISTER!!!! You just can not win in a small town.

Thanks for your help.....James
