Do I NEED to use tanning lotion?

Hi every one! I'm new here. I'm new at tanning. And I'm also a NEW employee at a local tanning salon. I work on commision (plus minimun wage), so I need to know about lotion if I want to make any money.

I always get this question from customers "Do I NEED to use a tanning lotion?"

So can you girls (and guys) answer this for me? Also, what exactly do BRONZERS, TINGLE, and ACCELERATORS do?

Any information, advise, or selling tips is MUCH appreciated. Thank you!

hopefully your employee can teach you!

u dont wax your car without wax so why would u tan without lotion!

Only if you want to get the most from each of your sessions, keep your skin moist and extent your tan, otherwise, no.

Your reply could be, you should ask the owner but anyway I say...
Yes! Using a qualtiy indoor lotion will provide you with a more even, less blotchy deeper tan in less time. UV light is reflected away from you if your skin is dry, whick will result in taking longer to achieve a tan and will also make you skin look blotchy, when you skin is mousturized by using lotion that has been designed specifaclly for indoor tanning, the UV light actually absorbs into your skin....

Pretty much self explanitory there.... Bronzers + a bronzer has been added to the lotion.
Tingle + a tingle has been added to the lotion...

Where is the owner of this salon? you should be asking them! And they should be training you!!

Is your manager not giving you any info on this? I will be happy to give you some but I am just amazed that no one is training you.

You should always use a lotion--(read accelerator). And you will always get what you pay for.
A good line to use when selling is--why waste your money on tanning if you are not going to get the most out of it.

Accelerator--Lotions designed to prepare the skin for tanning. Provides moisture (which is lost during the tanning process)....this helps hold on to the tan since dry skin sheds & if you are shedding the top layers of skin you are shedding your tan. Salon lotions have high quality ingredients that conditon....some have firming agents, ect.

Bronzers - contain bronzing agents found in self tanners to give an extra boost of color. I usually reccommend this to people starting out who are wanting quicker results or someone wanting to move from a straight accelerrator to something "stronger".

Tingle - IMO just contains skin irritants that gives an impression that the person got a lot more sun than they actually did. Although--some people swear by them. Can cause temp itching & blotchiness.

Thanks for the help. I've only met the owner twice, and she's been really busy both times I saw her. And I don't work with anyone else, so I can't really ask anyone questions since I always work alone. The things they told me where:

*You lose 50% of your tan before you even turn on the bed if you don't use a lotion (which that doesn't even make sense to me)
*tingle lotions get you the best tan

wrong, thats scarey... you need to tell her you want to sit down and talk to her, it is her business and she needs to make the time to train her employees... whoa! 7 locations and since 1981 but NO TRAINING?? no comp in your area?
