I WISH that my employees would take the initiative to learn on their own. It's hard enough to get them to listen to me when I'm trying to teach them!

Gave you points too Jenny! Gosh, I wish we had more people like you around. Our girls are good, but you have a genuine desire to want to learn so that the customers are getting what they deserve. This industry needs more employees like you.

Employee training:
One of best things you can do is to train your employees about the indoor tanning products you sell. Make sure your employees know the products inside and out.
Request training material/educational information from the companies of indoor tanning products you stock. Use this material to educate your employees so they are knowledgeable and confident in their discussions about indoor tanning products.
Spend time training your employees. Give them material to study and then test them on it.
Give them an incentive to make a perfect score. Make a policy that any employee must first pass the test before they can work the counter or earn sales commissions from lotions sales.

I have to thank everyone again. I sold 6 lotions in my 7 hour shift. WAAAAY better than I was doing before: )

We say:

Jenny, congrats on selling more than usual! There are a few equations that tanning salon owners use that can tell how much you are selling per person on an average during your shift and how much product you are selling per person during your shift. These are better indicators of how well you are doing & improving. So, if you tan 50 people during you shift and make $200, that's ok. If you tan 20 people during your shift and make $200 that's even better. These are just random numbers thrown out there, but you can get a better feel of how to evaluate your performance.

I just wanted to give an update on my progess since I started this topic:

I am the TOP lotion seller in the two tanning salons here in town! I'm very proud of this because I am still new (started mid Feb.) and I even beats sales of our area manager who always brags about her lotion sales. (now I sell twice as much as she does)

Since April 1st, I have already sold 40 bottles of lotion: ) That is extremely good for my store.

So I wanted to thank everyone again for your help!

we never let our employees work by themselves if they aren't fully trained, that is crazy!! Jenny you should go to smarttan.com or tanningtraining.com to get the information that you will need. Good luck
