Re: What ingredients do what?

As for the $90.00 cost, I have used both very low end in just about everything (it seems) cosmetic, high end and the spectrum in between. Sometimes there is a difference, sometimes it is marginal. I will say that I have never had a drugstore accelerator or indoor tanning lotion perform on the same level as a salon quality one. A lot goes into research and development for higher end products -- it really isn't fair to assert that it should be priced soley upon the actual cost of ingredients. Also, there are a lot of different consumers out there. I am a packaging freak (I LOVE Designer Skin) and I will pay more to have a quality lotion in a nicer package and I know there are many others out there like me, thus the market for such products. SO, to each his or her own. If you choose not to spend on these items, then you choose not to. I actually love your statement because I am sure that you are voicing what a LOT of people think but don't say when they are in a salon and someone tries to sell them a lotion that they feel is very expensive. There is a markup on those, but the salon owners are there to make a living. I don't think they are getting tax exepmtion as a charitable organization. :P |

Re: What ingeredients do what?
Glad this got bumped.
Knowing what a couple or three ingreds. in a product do is a great tool for selling and explaining to the client why their skin will benefit from it. |

There are as many different kind of ingredients in lotion as Carter had peanuts, little humor for you southerners, or democrats of which I am the first. But I think all the replies helpled you see there are several approachs to explaining what does this do, what does that do. I like to think about what I am telling people about lotion like it was a commerical on tv that would catch their attention, many times you have developed a relationship with your customers, right? I realize salon owners are VERY busy people, I do understand this and respect it. However, everyone deserves some one on one time, after all it makes me feel important, so I will ask especially if I dont know, what is it that you want out of your tan. Then if I have studied a little about the ingredients or I have that wonderful list someone shared on the thread I can pick out a few that I think would interest my customer. And honestly I think you said it yourself, you tell them your experience. That is why I used every single thing our distributor sold. I worked as a customer service sales rep at Professional Tan from 1995 to 2005 and sold over 3.5 million dollars worth of tanning lotion. And customers like products for different reasons, fragrance, price, feel, and effect. And honestly, if they will use something designed for the indoor tanner then they will see a better result than if they didnt use anything, we have to replace that moisture otherwise it looks like it does in the south right now with no rain. I loved to watch people who had never used lotion come out of the bed after being at a salon day, and looking at that expression oh my gosh I loved it, tell me more. I made it my personal challenge to try to get more people to try using lotion. This is why I can tell you one very important thing many of my salon owners learned, you have to spend money to make money. If you will get the mindset, your customers are going to tan, it is a natural result from exposing the skin to that tanning bed. But if we all ever get that and run with the concept of providing free tanning with lotion purchases we do more than just make a profit, we offer the salon customer a better longer lasting tan, we also offer to replace that moisture they loose when they tan, which will help them in the future, but we are showing them we care. Customers dont care how much you know until they know how much you care. Now this is just my humble opinion. I love your customers, I love this industry. I have been out of the loop but I would love to come back and have some of those old problems :)

Re: What ingeredients do what?
I'm still lost on one ingredient. Caffeine!!! DS Revival states that it has as much caffeine as a cup of coffee, but why. Does this mean if I bathe in a few pots of coffee each day I will be more tan. Someone help me out with this one.
