To keep us all from looking dishonest we need to tell clients the redness and burning feeling they feel after tanning with a hot action lotion is NOT a sun burn cause from the "superhot" tanning lamps.
That it is a reaction of the lotion its self. I have many clients coming from salons that did not receive this information, that they were incouraged to think it was from some new super lamp. When the clients use the lotion when not tanning as a moisturizer and get the hot red burning action they get an eye opener. amd feel mislead. COME ON SALONS. |

Chippp I agree with you a hundred percent! When I first tried it thankfully my salon owner not only cautioned me, he wouldn't allow me to buy a high tingle. Which is a good thing because now I can't stand it. It frustrates me to no end when I'm at the gym (they have beds there) and I see a new client buying a very high tingle lotion for their first time tanning. I don't want to interfere with the gym's operations, but at the same point, as a person.... morally it's wrong to watch another person buy something that could really affect them and NOT say anything.

You are so right Chippp.
I was given a high tingle lotion one time when I tanned.. and I had no idea what it was... just took the owners word for it and went to lay in the bed. I could not stand the heat. I had to rush out and practically bathe in their bathroom. Now I am sooo scared to try it again! I was at the Lotion 101 seminar this past weekend and applied a small amount to one part of my arm... and wow it it get hot and red fast. I can tell that I am not a tingle person... but am sure glad that I was able to be educated on it. This experience made me realize how important it is for me as an owner to know what lotions do what and the effects it may have with customers... I don't have to tell you that I never went back to that persons salon after that experience. |

As a lotion manufacturer one of our lines features two lotions. One has tingle and the other is the same lotion with no tingle. The nontingle is now outselling the tingle by a widening margin. The opposite of a year ago. Perhaps people are growing tired of the experience?

I always recommend that people try the tingle on their arm first. Just a little dab lets them know if this is something they can handle or not. I, personally, cannot stand tingle. But, I am starting to experiment and trying to broaden my horizons with these types of products.
Education is what makes the difference between a salon and a great salon. |
