There should be a new organization! I have been in the biz for 20 years and NOONE in this industry has ever marketed our industry properly; they all play defense and wonder why we get our brain beat in by the dermatology industry. A good model to follow would be the milk industry; they were villified by liberal media and what did they do? They went on a positive PR campaign of using celebrities to change the perception of the public about milk. I can tell you one thing, the strategy of using charts and graphs aint workin.

Peach...****..you hit the nail right on the head...beside the milk industry (great example) I was reminded of the egg industry...remember "the incredible, edible egg" ? Charts and graphs are logical...the fear of the sun and therefor tanning is visceral. We need to respond in kind. We haven't even come close.
Why don't YOU consider running for president (of the ITA)

change is good, and hopefully more and more salons will actually join the new organization if it is worthwhile and perceived as actually looking out for us.

As long as I have been in this industry (1993), I have been told by tanning industry leadership, not to make ANY positive claims about UV.

As If we aren't allowed to tell the truth or something! How about an information campaign about the history of UV light? Give Americans the facts and let them make their own decisions.

Start with this tidbit: Did you know that the first tanning beds were invented by doctors, for doctors to treat a variety of serious skin disorders?

The idea here should be obvious; how can the dermatology industry
be against something that they helped invent and continue to use
to this very day to treat diseases like psoriasis. It is hypocrisy
like this that the average American dispises.

Our ITA leadership should put billboards like this across America. That would get the party started. No backbone.
