Re: Heading to the ER tonite

Just got back from my ENT and had her write another prescription for Prendisone and re-up the Flonase. I will be taking all of this along with the Sudafed until the addiction breaks. I took work off until Tuesday to get through the first few rough days. So far used the above and feel really pretty good.

It's embarrasing to have this, I'd rather have a coke problem, at least I'd lose a few pounds... LOL!

Wish me luck. Keep ya all posted.

Re: Heading to the ER tonite

Flonase, that is one strong stuff, I thought you were using the over the counter stuff. Good luck and try to get rid of it.

Re: Heading to the ER tonite

I've always had problems breathing thru my nose. When I was 17 I used those types of nose sprays for months, and literally burned the lining out of the inside of my nose. My ENT said NEVER USE THEM MORE THAN 3 DAYS in a row. They actually make it worse after that.

So, I started using Breathe Right strips and they helped a little, but not much... so I had surgery for a deviated septum when I was 19. Well, that didn't help much either.

Back to the Breathe Right strips...

Last year I had surgery to reduce the turbinates, because they would swell when I was lying down. That helped a lot for about 8 months... guess what, it's happening again. So, back to the Breathe Right strips. Oy!

So, I feel your pain! It will be a rough few days, but once you kick that habit, don't use those sprays again. Believe me, they totally make it worse.

Hope they can help you.

Jeff be careful with prendisone, my mother-in-law has taken and so has a friend of ours, they both gained a ton of weight from it.....Don't stay on it any longer than you have to.

Re: Heading to the ER tonite

Have had a similar problem with the OTC spray..year round allergies for me..hate the feeling of "claustrophobia" by not being able to breathe through my nose..was on Flonase, zyrtec and my OTC spray for years..just had a ckup with my DR and she switched me to Veramyst..still a steroid like Flonase...but way better...no more OTC spray..I havent touched it for weeks now!!
Good Luck..know how you feel!

Re: Heading to the ER tonite

My prendisone is only for a week to 10 days, just to break the dependence and allow the Flonase to kick in as it takes about a week to ramp up. I am still taking my Sudafed along with everything also to help open the nose from the inside instead of anything in my nose.

Thursday was the meltdown day so nothing all day on Thursday, Friday and so far today. A little stuffy, but not unbearable.

I find that when I am standing or moving around, I'm fine actually really clear, when I sit for an extended period or laying down I stuff up, but not as bad as Thursday.

Re: Heading to the ER tonite

I've tried everything, and Flonase is the only thing that works. Trick with that stuff is to MAKE SURE to use it every morning, EVERY DAY. 2 shots in each nostril as you walk out the door.
It takes about 2 weeks (in my case anyway) to "set-up" in your system and once up and running, you want to make sure you don't skip a day.

Re: Heading to the ER tonite

Flonase is the RX one for allergies vs. the OTC stuff that you have to use every hour on the hour...
