Re: PREGNANT

I agree that the liability is higher only to the point of that the woman may have an accident trying to get out of the bed or fainting. But then again that could happen to anyone. UV light cannot hurt the baby it only penetrates skin deep, it never reaches the baby. When it come to dehydration from tanning that is a myth. Dehydration is a condition that occurs when a person loses more fluids than they takes in. it's rare to reach a level of even moderate dehydration during sports or other normal outdoor activity. So when it comes to tanning it would be even more unlikely.

Re: PREGNANT

I intend to keep on tannin' when I am expecting - i think the vitamin D is a much bigger issue that any of heating if you are otherwise healthy

THANKS LAdy bug - ! while i will allow pregnant ladies to tan, we don't allow drunks - they fall asleep in the beds and annoy the **** outta me!

Re: PREGNANT

i was given the OK to tan by my OB - he said "anything to make you feel better and moderation"

i tanned until i was 7 1/2 mo. preg. and then switched to the mystic because i no longer could lay comfortably much less getting in and out of the beds i coulda used a winch) -

anyhoo - we ALWAYS have any preg woman ask their doctor first - if there is a prob (high risk preg, doc dead set against it etc) then we will freeze their pkg till after the birth......

SHEILA! all great advice...couldn't have said it better myself.

Missy ~ I know you are going to think I am 'starting something' .... but I am really concerned by your stance on this ~ as well as comments about the 'necessity' for indoor tanning....

You seem to have some of the SAME anti-tan brainwashed ideas about our services..... and have not understood the real BENEFITS of UV to life ~ ~ it's neccessity for healthy living.

If you truly believe that indoor tanning is dangerous ~ how could you be in the business?

To me .... to deprive someone from indoor tanning (espeically at this time of the year in my neck of the woods)... well, it would be like denying them clean water to drink or clean air to breath....

To equate Tanning while pregnant and Smoking while pregnant like you have..... well, I got to say ~ ~ I honestly don't know HOW you got to this point.
Oh Dear Sheila - From the day I opened I made the rule to not allow anyone to tan that is pregnant. They don't have a choice in my salon even if they signed a waiver and had a doctor's note. It has nothing to do with being educated in this field. I do not want the risk of ANYTHING as outlined above, even just a prego. gal getting in and out of a bed, etc. I DON'T WANT THAT LIABILITY! As stated by someone else, if that baby comes out messed up they will look to blame me even if there is not a reason! A new mother of an unhealthy child will look back and always think "Maybe I shouldn't have done this or that and I would guarantee the first thing she'd think is about her tanning sessions". I know someone that lost their baby and thinks like this and blames herself all the time and she did tan. I'M NOT SAYING THE TANNING WAS RELATED!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm only stating that her "what if's" did include she felt guilty for tanning.

Comparing Tanning to Cig's, I only meant that some people think it is fine to smoke while pregnant. I disagree! I'm also not real big on the idea of an expecant mother getting a spray tan and the risk of inhaling the chemicals JMO!

OK NOW - LET'S NOT GET DING HAPPY BECAUSE YA"ALL DISAGREE

IT'S JUST HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT AND MY OPINION IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE! PERIOD!

Re: PREGNANT

Point well taken Missyhot. There are people who just look to sue someone for anything that goes wrong in their life.

Re: PREGNANT

Why get out of bed then?

They could slip on your floor..... (!!!!)

They could break a mirror in the room and bleed to death... (!!!!!)

They could be overcome by another tanner's After Tan Stench... (!!!)

(honey there was no need for 'caps' .... your font size is perfectly fine for my poor old eyes ~ )

I stand by my assessment.... that for anyone that believes there is bodily risk to their clients FROM UV LIGHT ..... (especially a good salon operator that only does things right) .... it's time to open up a Dairy Queen and kill em via congestive heart failure.

Re: PREGNANT

Here's my point of view on this issue and I am a) a salon owner and b) in my second pregnancy (currently 17 weeks) since opening my salon.

I tan with my Dr's permission. However, since I know that most problems will occur during the first trimester of pregnancy I don't tan. I have suffered from a miscarriage in the past (no I wasn't tanning at that time) and wanted to blame it on anything possible. It was overwhelming. So, I personally will not tan during the 1st trimester and will not allow clients to tan during the 1st trimester. Once I explain this to them they are very understanding.

I will tan them after 1st trimester but only with their Dr's permission in writing - no liability issues that way and with the understanding that I (not them) control what bed they use and how long they tan for. My dr (who is a good friend) tells her patients when they ask about tanning that they can but only if they come to my salon b/c she knows I will take care of them and not let them tan too long. :)
