Do these drugs have the photosensitizing effect in all people, or just noticeably with people of skin type I or II?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm a skin type III or IV depending on the chart you're looking at, I've taken Benadryl often before tanning and I've never had any increased sensitivity to the UV.

I'm guessing it's unique in each person so the idea is to be aware and responsible about which drugs you're taking while tanning.

has anyone heard anything about Nizoral being bad to take when you are tanning??

Talk to your pharmacist, and/or do a search on Nizoral. Normally the web has lots of health sites that tell you the do' and dont's of the drug. Isnt that for dandruff?

Tinea Versicolor... also called Pityriasis Versicolor, this white spot disorder is caused primarily by an over production of a fungus, a type of yeast called pityrosporum orbiculare. This bacteria is a normal part of the skin flora (bacteria mix). This microscopic fungus flakes off of the scalp onto the upper body, just like dandruff, and remains unnoticed until a person starts to tan. Unfortunately, tanning is prevented in areas where it lands because this fungus produces a chemical that prevents melanocytes from producing melanin. The condition spreads more easily in hot, humid environments. One treatment is to use extra strength dandruff shampoos that have selenium sulfid in their ingredients. These products must be used consistently in order to be effective. Does it cause sun sensitivity.....no.... but until you have it nipped in the bud, you will have white spots in those areas. Also wear light, loose clothing to avoid sweat in those areas. You didnt mention where you live.

that is great info thanks,! i live in PA right now, but always go to hawaii for summers and Xmas usually, and its sure hot and humid there.
I had noticed that SO many people in hawaii have it...and that makes sense - they are all tan, and thats when it shows up. and its hot and humid

my husband had it BAD (hes from HI), almost covering his entire upper body, excluding face luckily, and tried SO many medications......he found minocycline actually worked. no doctor can explain to me why it worked, they all say they have never heard of using that before. i used nizoral once before and it came back after a couple months.

poop i hate this stuff. it ruins a perfectly good tan! !

Not a problem. Good luck, the key is a GOOD dandruff shampoo .... faithfully. It is actually skin dandruff. My daughter also suffers from it. Where clothing touches on upper body in hot humid weather always gets worse. Best bet.... move to hot climate, go naked all the time, shower with a partner....lol
