Goodness, the sun has been around since before we as a specie has ever exsisted. You think it might be genetics? Or perhaps the crap you eat when you go to McDonalds every single day. How about all the processed foods, the air we breathe, the pesticides used on our vegetables and fruits, how about the hormones that are placed in our meat, the products put in our drinking water to "purify it" my gosh even the simple mineal oil placed in our lotions, the by products emitted by our cars, the list continues. If infact tanning causes cancer then explain to me why melanoma is typically found on parts of the body that is not regularly exposed to the sun? People these days are so ill educated about their health. I worked as an RN and a paramedic, and I cannot believe the reasons why people would call 911. People are so quick to judge what the media wants them to know with out ever second guessing it. Everything that you see on the news tells us to basically live our lives in fear. You can smoke a pack of cigerettes a day and never get lung cancer, you could smoke 2 cigerrettes in your entire life and get lung cancer. Another thing, when they found a direct link to heart problems with Ephedra products, Phen Phen etc, how long did it take for the FDA to remove it from the market? I think it was like what 6 months. If there was a direct link to skin cancer, would you not think a FDA regulated industry would become obsolete?

From Dr. Hollick's book "The UV advantage" he says, that non melanoma skin cancer kills 1,200 lives a year in the us. Compare that with diseases that can be prevented by regular sun exposure. Colon and breast cancer have mortality rates of 20-65% and kill 138,000 americans annually. Osteoporosis a bone disease that can be mitigated by regular sun exposure affects 25 million americans.

When you can find a direct link to this epidemic of skin cancer perhaps you can share it with the rest of us. And another food for thought, why is it since the anti tanning lobby has told us to stay out of the sun we have seen a dramatic increase in skin cancers and other cancers?

What is more crap is someone purposely registering to a tanning forum and talking crap about tanning.

well..thats really a useful piece of information. Uptil now, I knew that exposure to sun helps in providing vitamin D to our body. But I'm sure many here like me, didn't knew that it can help in preventing cancer as well.
Thanks for the information.
