Rep Power: 0 | Currently have an opportunity to purchase an existing 8 bed facility. Priced @ 60k. Working at 40% of potential capacity. Earning 25% off total sales. Need advise regarding the things to look for etc, regarding the new business. Currently using Wolf Beds. Where can I find the cost of new bulbs. etc. |

Rep Power: 0 | Hi- Just my input from buying an existing business. Does this price include outstanding time that you will have to make up for, that you were not compensated? Just out of curosity? Dont want to buy blue sky if you know what I mean! My suggestion is to run an add and make a deadline for people to come in and use that time up. I know it sounds bad, but you need to make sure that once you take over, that all rules you have are told to each and every customer that comes thru that door. Make sure that all beds are in good working condition and have been thoroughly gone through, including new acrylics, lamps and any spare parts needed for these beds. A big suggestion that I have is changing the salon name. That business may have been run differently and a "new name" spells out to all those previous customers that there is a new owner in town and that you may do things differently. You will get those people in that will say "Well so-in-so used to let me do this or share that and believe me if you take care of it now, it will not happen later. Please take some of my advise with what you will, as I have been there and wished that someone would have told me. If I would do it all over again i would start from scratch. Not saying purchasing an existing business is a bad thing just if i had to do it again I would do it differently. It has taken me a good 3 years to finally get my customers to understand that it has all changed, including new atmosphere, new beds, and new rules. Also a few days closed maybe over a weekend would give you a new face lift, it wouldnt hurt and would show people that there is change. I know that you said asking price is 60k and just for comparison I purchased my 12 wolff bed salon for 40k. Good luck and best wishes!!! RoxanneOURBACKYARD@HOTMAIL.COM |

Rep Power: 25 | First off, as stated above, make sure you and the seller are clear about terms of the sessions that are current in that salon. Check for reciepts for the tanning lamps currently in the beds, this will give you an idea on whether re-lamping will be necessary. Regarding "Wolff", remember that Wolff is ONLY a manufacturer of lamps. They do not make beds, they only license companies to allow them to use their name. People who say they have Wolff beds can be very misleading as you can put ANY lamp in a bed that may have the "Wolff" name on it. Just remember, Wolff lamps and not Wolff beds.As for cost on lamps for the beds, there are many good distributors out there and most of us offer a good price and service.I agree with the name change idea and if possible to redecorate. This will leave no doubts that the salon has changed hands. However this works out for you, best of luck!------------------Take A Trip To The Coast...Palm Coast Tann mike@palmcoasttann.com |

Rep Power: 24 | I bought an existing salon in april of 2000, it also had wolff bedspc marjeting can get you prices on bulbes and what is compatible with what 1800-fast-tanjust because you buy a previously owned salon does not mean you have to do everything their way, use their current prices as a guide and make your own, also add some new packages and specials.Hopefully the salon doesn't have a bad reputation with the clients.Place a under new ownership sign in the window or on the door to appeal to clients who might have once tanned there and stopped for whatever reason. they will come back if they see there is new owners.Hire your own employees don't keep theirs, their employees are too familiar with the old ways start fresh.Run a under new ownership grand openeing drawing.Send out a mailing item to all the clients in their database letting them know it is under new ownership and some specialsDo an ad in a local paper with you grand opening date |
