When to Hire extra help? - tanTALK

I have 10 tanning units and have only been open for 2 months. The most we have tanned in one day is 40.My wife and myself can handle 75-100 people a day without losing the personal touch. I understand we will soon be bombarded, when do most of the owners hire for the busy season and is there a ratio for employees per tanning unit?Thanks,Tommy------------------Tommy Lowery

Tommy, what hours are you open now? Do you and your wife split the hours or do you work at the same time? Last year I had 15 beds and I had 1 person from 7:30am-11am, 2 people from 11am-5pm, 3 people from 5pm-11pm..that worked real well for us! I started adding employees Feb. 1. Hope this helps!

Tommy,We usually start hiring in Feb. you will need time to get them trained. We have the manager to open the store. They are there at 6:30. The next person comes in around 10:00. There is always at least 2 people working up until closing time. This gives the clients the customer service they need and to keep the store clean. At our larger resort we have 3 people. It takes an extra person to just keep the beds and towels clean.Hope this helps.

Tommy, In our smallest salon which has 10 beds we try and have 2 people during peak after 10:30 or 11:00 a.m. One person can handle it before lunch hour starts to hit. We try and keep 2 here until closing or close to it during this time. It is usually March before we need 2 clerks the entire afternoon and evening. We bring help in as needed. You should be able to tell on a week to week basis as to how much help you need and at what times. I plan on hiring in January this year to make sure all are trained well before going out in the resorts. Hope this helps!------------------Carin WalkerSandollar Tanning Resorts
