| Tantalkers:The NIEHS (National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences) NTP (National Toxicology Program) Board of Scientific Counselors will hold a meeting to discuss the substances nominated to be listed as "known human carcinogens" in the 10th Report on Carcinogens (RoC). The meeting will be held December 13-15, 2000 at the Wyndham City Center, 1143 New hampshire Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20037.Broad Spectrum UV Radiation and UVA, UVB and UVC" will be the first substance discussed on 12/13/00. On-site registration begins at 9:00 am and the meeting starts at 9:30 am. I am scheduled to be the first speaker because I submitted the only formal response on behalf of the indoor tanning industry to NIEHS/NTP(in June, 1999) and I was the first to request a time to comment.This listing is the attempt, in my opinion, by the anti-tanning forces to broaden and confirm the listing of "Solar Radiation and Exposure to Sunlamps and Sunbeds" as a "known human carcinogen" in the 9th RoC. Since the deck is stacked against us (speakers are only allowed 10 minutes to respond), my presentation is not likely to influence NIEHS/NTP to remove this listing. Rather, it is necessary to "set the stage" for a later legal action.If you are interested in seeing for yourself how unfair the regulatory process really is, this is a good meeting for you to attend.
