Rep Power: 23 | I don't know of any personally. However, this is something that I feel is a conflict of interest. I would caution against doing business with any distributorship that also had a chain of salons. Even if that chain wasn't in direct competition at this point in time. Who's to say that chain might not someday target my neighborhood and start opening their chain in competition with me? So, if people don't "fund" their advancement to compete with individual salon owners, by being loyal, faithful and paying customers then it's difficult to expand. |

Rep Power: 23 | Total conflict of interest. My local distributor used to own salons. They got out of the salon business to be a distributor. The only reason I say this is that it helps my distributor to understand the salon's actual needs versus what distributors think they need. Very helpful for the little guys like me. |

Rep Power: 0 | Conflict of interest for sure. Our local UWE distributor currently owns 3 mega salons and have plans for 1-2 more. I do NOT want them to know much about my business. Too bad, I love their equipment. |

Rep Power: 24 | That is just it....you order from them, they have all your info, right down to how many pairs of Winkease went through your place over the course of a year and next thing you know, they pop one up across the street from you and undercut your prices on everything because they get stuff so much cheaper. Doesn't 4 Seasons own a bunch? |

Rep Power: 0 | I have spoken to distributors that own salons. Some of them have said that they don't compete on price to show that they are not taking advantage of their position. I think you would have to take it on a case by case basis. And it would all boil down to wether or not you trust the distributor or not. It's a common practice in a lot of industries, expecially with online shopping and being able to sell directly to customers now. |

Rep Power: 0 | A Wholesale Tanning Supply (AWTS) owns 10+ stores, sells to customers at prices I purchase at. It all comes down to the mighty buck. If we don't stand together and enable people like this to do business they will win, but it's not just distributors that hurt us. Take a look at (***link removed***) That is enough to make you sick. The cowards wont even post address or phone#. (tanlines, your link is fine, just do me a favor and post that inside the salon owner's forum, we wouldn't want tanner's who read here going there and making the problem worse. Thanks, Bronze ) [ This Message was edited by: Bronze Star on 2001-10-11 21:05 ] |
