Rep Power: 0 | 1st New Competition I have owned a salon for 7 years now. Yesterday one of my customers came in to let me know she is opening a salon. She and her husband own a trucking business in North Dakota and they have money to loose. (her words) This will be the 1st new competitor I have had in the 7 years. I have watched 3 salons close and many hair salons get rid of their tanning equipment in the last 7 years. She plans on having 2 smaller beds, a stand up and the main focus being on Spray Tanning . This salon will be located in a well established hair salon. She still has over $200 in tans at my shop and has sponsored a sporting event for one of my employees. Do I refund the money and send her on her way? |

Rep Power: 14 | Re: 1st New Competition 2 small beds, a standup, is not much 'comp'. Put it together in a hair salon, and it comes to be problematic for all parties involved...that, plus, in your own words; "I have watched 3 salons close and many hair salons get rid of their tanning equipment in the last 7 years" should tell you, this recipe won't cook. I agree with Parrot. No need to make enemies, small towns can be very vocal. Last thing you want is to have rumors start in a hair salon about how 'unethical' you run your biz...in lieu of returning $200 in cash, perhaps give her some old lotion stock, or $200 worth of advice on 'salon ownership/operation' Stay your course...you will survive this. |

Competition is competition, good or bad, they will have a captive audience being in a hair salon that has existing clients.
