Re: Do you support an under 18 ban?

I don't support it, but unfortunately for me, it has already passed in my state. No tanning for minors unless a Dr prescription is on file. I tried to get one from my Dr for my 2 youngest for when we go on vacation this summer but he refused. Said that tanning will kill you. I looked at him and said that I am sorry he wasted so much money on his education as I would think that he would know that you can't live without sunlight, it is the sunburns that cause the problems, and that he isn't able to really read studies put out by the medical community properly. I also told him that I will be looking for another Dr as I am not comfortable with a Dr who would rather write a prescription for a Vitamin D supplement than to allow our bodies to do what it does naturally. I also told him that I take my profession as a tanning salon owner very seriously too. He didn't appear to like any of my answers.

Re: Do you support an under 18 ban?

I do not support it and in my province in Canada there is no ban currently but organizations like the Joint Canadian Tanning Association (JCTA) are making it mandatory for their members to do a voluntary ban which is complete BS.

Re: Do you support an under 18 ban?

Please cast your vote ASAP. We need to be able to refute the belief among state legislators that the tanning industry supports banning under 18 tanners. In my state they are using this to justify voting for the ban. I want to give them proof they are being lied to by the industry 'representative' that has told them this.

I completely agree with you but in Canada you have the big tanning associations: the JCTA and Smart Tan Canada that are saying we should all do a voluntary ban and this gets picked up by the media and then the salons that do not agree with this get no say.

Re: Do you support an under 18 ban?

Do you actually think you can win? Just because you support an under 18 ban, does not mean that you agree with it.What is worse,an 18 ban with hardly any press or exposure?Or as we had up here in Canada a 3 year province by province mountain of negative publicity in association with an under 18 ban?

1 ,you get the ban and things stay quiet

2 you get the ban and all **** breaks loose while you try to fight an alignment between medical and govt corruption.

All of you think that because there is a ban that people will not tan thereafter. Some of you think in terms of an incremental ban, first 18,then 21 then everyone.

I disagree with an under 18 ban.But I also realise there is no stopping them. The only way they are going to be stopped is if the other side steps back. They,as you all know will never do that. They will be believed over us,7 days a week. They will not allow themselves to lose face like they did when they tried to get the FDA to ban indoor tanning in 95(i think).

So how are you going to win??These A holes don't even want to recognize the benefits of vit d.If it is not injected or given in a pill, according to them it will never work.

We are thoroughly in the grasp of deep medical corruption. The only good thing about that is that if tanning was not really, really good for you,we ironically would be left alone. There would be no discussion. But we are perceived as a threat to big pharma $$$$.

I agree with you on many of your points but I would rather fight then to just let them blow through us and give the entire population false information.

Re: Do you support an under 18 ban?

Fighting is fun.It feels good.I have done my share.I educate clients every day on how corrupt all of the misinformation is.Those battles you can win.Govt battle outcomes are decided before the fight starts. Those you will rarely win.You seem to forget that the majority of the population do not care one bit,not one tiny bit, about indoor tanning. They don't care.So you will never convince them.Because they don't listen to either side.

The ones on the other hand ,the cancer thumpers, the fear mongerers, the bribed govt officials, the pharma zealots and the mainstream media. Will never change, and they will never shut up.

So,when you try to fight them, there are more of them than us.They have the ability to buy regulations that benefit them through govt lobbyists. But finally, what it all boils down to is money. They have way more.

The only thing that will cure all of the injustices handed to uv exposure is time, lots of it.We have to wait until all of those in govt who oppose us are dead. And then, hopefully the generation of govt will stand for truth and honesty........don't hold your breath on that though.

I say no...not as a salon owner but as an individual that is tired of government over reach. Not into being ruled on my rights.

Re: Do you support an under 18 ban?

I do support it.

Tho I am a Libertarian, and feel it is govt overreach, my 'no' vote is more in my personal belief, and has less to do with tanning, that any responsibility and decision of a mature adult nature (driving, pilot license, smoking, voting, military service etc., etc) should be made by someone 18 and over..under that age, you are still under the responsibility of parental decisions.

I would not want my 16yo driving, drinking, smoking, going to war without having myself allowing for some kind of parental control and say over the matter. Over 18, you are considered an adult, on your own, pay your own way...at least in my household.
