I hate to be the bearer of more bad news but, I have been hearing through distributors that this tanning season is off to the worst start in many years, making last year which was bad look good. I am sure the same 8 or 10 salons will jump on here tell me that I'm full of mud, but for the other 16,000 salons out there it is not a petty sight. And for the 3000 of us who are no longer in business....

I hate to agree but I don't expect better days are around the corner. Most customer
counts were way down last year. A little better so far this year but nothing like some
past years. All the years of bad press hit hard in 2014

I knew someone would quickly try to attack the messenger. I cannot reveal my sources. I can say that they have been around for a long time in the industry.

Congrats Kooky, your party will continue as you take business from fellow salons. It will continue until the fishbowl has no water in it. But it is evaporating fast my friend.

Peach your single source of information is not a good sampling.

Actually last year the first 2 months were great months for most distributors. Some distributors are down over 2014 YTD but up over 2013 YTD which reflects the very strong start last year.

I don't see doom. People are tanning, people are spending money, people are vacationing. Think the gas prices dropping has really helped those savoring their hard earned monies to spend. We are having great sales! Most fortunate, I know.

The past two winters in SE Michigan have been very difficut for many businesses, with extremely cold and nasty weather. My car wash and tanning salon has experienced two of the worst winter seasons in decades due to the weather alone, let alone the economy and other factors.

Yep......... winter has been brutal, I can look out the window and tell you what biz will be like.
But when it is half way decent out, I'm always up over the past few years. People seem to have money and want to spend it. I have sold more swimwear and gift items this month than I have for the last 4 seasons.
