A customer that claims get scabies from bed

OMG, just had a customer call me to complain she had to go to the emergency room for a rash on her butt and back. They claimed it to be scabies! My doctor said it takes 2-6 weeks to get symptoms so there is no way it came from 1 of my beds... Has anyone had any issues with a customer like this? How would you handle it? MIKE

They didn't get it from your bed. They probably got that from their OWN bed or someone else's. Scabies come from animals. When they sleep in your bed, they deposit scabies and their eggs in the bed where they multiply in the dark moist areas of the sheets. They would not survive in bright warm UV light. Tell em to try again. Tell em to quit letting their nasty animals sleep in their bed. lol.

Re: A customer that claims get scabies from bed

It is possible that someone claiming they had to go to the ER - for a rash - is just seeing what sort of a reaction you give to see if they can get anything from you.

According to the Center for Disease Contol, the most common transmission of scabies is through prolonged, human-to-human contact. Typically sexual contact. Most people are unwilling to claim this could be the cause in an ER. Additionally, it may be that she has only been with her usual partner....but that her partner has been elsewhere without their knowledge....

I would state with confidence that your cleaning methods are done following industry guidelines and with industry sanitizing products (assuming they are) and that it is not possible she got them from your salon.

ps. if she continues with her claims, ask for full documentation including pictures, medical papers, when it was first noticed, etc. Compare this with her tanning records at your salon - what units she used, when she was there over the past 2 months, etc

Scabies usually is spread by direct, prolonged, skin-to-skin contact with a person who has scabies. Contact generally must be prolonged; a quick handshake or hug usually will not spread scabies. Scabies is spread easily to sexual partners and household members. Scabies in adults frequently is sexually acquired. Scabies sometimes is spread indirectly by sharing articles such as clothing, towels, or bedding used by an infested person; however, such indirect spread can occur much more easily when the infested person has crusted scabies.

Tanning beds are a convenient medical scape goat. I've heard it all. Im always amazed that people think they have narrowed down everything they catch to the tanning bed.
