Rep Power: 10 | Tanning Session Times You know, this is just a thought; back in the 1980's, tanning beds did not have the very short exposure times that we do now. Most beds were 30 minutes and HP were up to 60 minutes (30 min on each side) Which more closely mimics natural sunlight. Could this rush to shorter sessions and stronger lamps may have caused some of this backlash against the indoor tanning industry? Should we be going back to the longer sessions instead of what we have done? Don't get me wrong. I believe that tanning equipment is safe if used properly, but when you get into a open sun 1050 for 8 minutes.... |

Rep Power: 19 | Re: Tanning Session Times There is no more, backlash or misconceptions regarding indoor tanning than there was 20 years ago. What there is MUCH more of is free, easy and fast (almost instant) communication of the backlash and misconceptions regarding indoor tanning. Let's say a local news show does a negative tanning piece, now one of you guys is going to post it on the forums for all to see. For us, we now get to see every negative thing said about tanning, when 20 years ago only the people local to that news show would have seen it. Everyone I knew, 25 years ago thought indoor tanning was bad for you, myself included, now many people know that tanning in moderation can be healthy. The science is on our side, the timing and politics are not. In the 50s, 60s and 70s doctors told people not to exercise too much as it was bad for you. Could you imagine an MD saying that now? As the science comes out more and more, we will be in a better place. The question is, can the industry survive that long? I think it can and will. |
