Rep Power: 16 | Minimizing EFT's credit card disputes Any ways to deal with EFT customers that disputing their monthly EFT charge "claiming" that they cancel their membership when they didn't. (they didn't use their membership for the disputed months otherwise it will be a case of rendering of services). The credit card company generally ruling in favor of the customer since we have no proof that the didn't cancel ?! ... they say that maybe we forgot on our end to cancel their membership. It is a frustrating situation since we have a pretty good membership contract and generally we don't have any issue with it but How do you prove that a customer didn't cancel their membership? it seems to me like it is a loophole that a customer can use anytime they wish to dispute a recurring transaction. Any advice ? |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Minimizing EFT's credit card disputes In the past we've sent copies of our cancellation policy along with the signed contract back to the CC company explaining that we meticulously track all cancellations and only take cancellations via certified mail (that can be tracked for the most part). We also offer a $50.00 cancellation fee for anyone wanting out of the contract so by actually talking to a human being with CC company you might actually gain traction. We discourage the use of Wells Fargo (sorry folks) as they have a high level of chargeback in favor of their precious member and we don't accept AMEX because they are all about their cardholders. We have a Visa and MasterCard sign prominently displayed so we get very little AMEX/Discover inquiries. I'm working with my merchant service provider to find a recurring ACH provider because its a little more difficult to get out of that situation and from what I understand it is cheaper. Because we're a small business we're the original as it were I explain that to EVERY member when they sign up. I explain my stance and belief on charge backs (should probably have a portion of my contract state that they agree on the life of their first born not to ask for a chargeback, and require that portion be initialed or signed). If they have a situation where that is the problem just come in and talk to me, I'm an agreeable person. So far I've had two people come in and speak to me face-to-face about charge backs! In both cases we kept the money. No need to get the CC company involved. I'm sure that won't always be the case. |

Recently my business card was in the group at Home Depot that got hacked. Sure enough I had a dozen clients who's cards where hacked and today I had to make a dozen calls asking for new cards. |

Rep Power: 18 | Re: Minimizing EFT's credit card disputes If it is that big of a deal to you, then you need to have in your eft contract that they must submit the cancellation by certified mail and to make sure they are keeping a copy of that receipt. If it clearly states it in your contract and they can't produce that certified letter rcpt, then I would think that would suffice. You have to really take in to consideration if it is worth it also. It isn't to everyone. |
