My revenues in relevance to this topic won't be of any assistance but in 2013 my salon did around $80k. 2012 was the same. This year YTD I'm almost @ $200k Total Revenue

Re: Any chance Tan Tax will get Axed?

Although I don't think the Tan Tax is enough to put people out of business it sure would help me not to have to pay an extra 1000 to 2000 every quarter.

Doesn't the tanning industry have a representative now? One we didn't have when the government decided to implement the tax and no one was there to represent the tanning industry?

Parrot, I have to disagree, after this was posted I went and checked numbers (out of boredom ) and I could show you in black and white that this tax cost me 40% - It was the frosting on the cake.

Re: Any chance Tan Tax will get Axed?

The R's in the House and Senate will likely pass a bill to repeal the ACA (Obamacare) but it will be vetoed by BHO and there won't be enough votes to overcome his veto. Then, small bills will be introduced to repeal certain provisions, i.e., medical device tax, employer mandate, individual mandate, etc. There will likely be enough support from the dem's to overcome a veto. IF (and it is a big "if") a bill to repeal the Tan Tax could be introduced in the House and passed in the Senate (claiming that the Tan Tax is a REAL "war on women") it is possible (but not likely) to get rid of it.

More promising is the fact that the Supreme Court has agreed to "hear" the case regarding whether or not subsidies can be given in states that didn't set up exchanges. If SCOTUS rules that they cannot be given, the ACA will fold like a house built of cards.

Two things you can count on: (1) governmental organizations continue to grow; and (2) taxes are NEVER repealed.

Here is a good (and timely) article from The Hill regarding the Tan Tax.

I will argue till I'm blue in the face, the Tan Tax isn't the reason this industry is in the doldrums. When this tax went into effect in July of 2010, I had just one person even mention their displeasure of this tax. It has been maybe, a thorn in our side, but not anything to put one out of business. Even though I'm there, it's not because of this tax.

I am sure almost every salon owner felt displeasure of having to pay 10% more out of their pockets for this tan tax. If you didn't there is something wrong with you.

It wasn't out of your pocket, your customer paid it. If you didn't collect from the customer, that's your problem.

Most people expect prices to increase, so why is a 10% tax, another fricken government tax, such a shock. I think they just learned to live with it and excepted it. They don't stay away from tanning because of this tax.

So what do you think has caused your specific doldrums?
