Re: ABC News: Tanning Beds Bad News Nothing like showing video from 5 years ago. Odds are those salons aren't even in biz any more. |
Re: ABC News: Tanning Beds Bad News These are not reporters any more, There show people putting on a rating show. If they had to report true news, they all would be out of work. |

Re: ABC News: Tanning Beds Bad News The first down side of being part of the indoor tanning industry is dealing with negative publicity. Negative publicity has been part of our industry for the 36 years that I have been in the industry. It will never go away. It makes us angry because we feel it is not an accurate representation of the responsible use of tanning equipment and we are frustrated because we feel there is no one speaking adequately on our behalf. The only way as salon owners that we can fight this is to be responsible in how we operate our salons and not do things that may bring more income when it reflects poorly on tanning and support the organizations that are making an effort to represent. Most importantly and I feel this is very important, don't blame negative publicity for the decline in sales in your salon. Even when at times there can be a short term effect immediately following a negative story, do not let that be responsible for other reasons your salon may be declining. Also it is a very important time to promote spray tanning as a buffer for fewer UV tanners. Be a problem solver and find ways to overcome everything that is thrown at you. |
Re: ABC News: Tanning Beds Bad News Steve, I'm getting sick and tired of you saying the demise of the tanning business has not been caused by the negative publicity. That's bull crap and you know it. I'm out of business, not because of competition, not because I don't have nice equipment, and not because my salon doesn't have appeal. It's mostly because of the negative press this industry has received, and a little because of the economy, nothing else. Get over it and quit beating a dead horse. |
