How are you preparing?

How are you preparing for this upcoming busy season? I know where still a couple months from it, but how are you preparing for it? What promotions are you going to run, are you stick with the same you've done forever or changing it up a bit? Where have you advertised, how are you getting people walking into your salon next season?

I know that for us we usually are the busiest from Jan-July. We are busy mid early October, but just cause of Halloween, so what kind of promo's are u doing to attract business, no need for the nasty comment.

nasty comment ? I dont think so.............. There is no need to run specials this time of year. People that do are just degrading the biz even more.

Sales this time of year don't degrade the business they create yearlong customers. I run extended month sales this time of year and Busy season ends around July 4 for everyone. It's not a sudden drop but rather a steady drop in visits per day until October. Run a sale where if they buy 2 months they get 1 free or something along those lines. That gets them in the door until 2015 then busy season is a few weeks away. If you throw something FREE in there they are more likely to buy even if they don't need it just to get that free month. Just like at the gas station when you buy 1 candy bar and they say if you buy one more you get a third free. You know **** well that thing is gonna melt in your car but are likely to at least entertain the idea of buying that candy bar.

A big thing I am doing this year to make busy season start earlier for me is PINK WEDNESDAY Black Friday yields minimal results for small salons and salons in general. Let's get them the day before Thanksgiving with a ridiculous sale before they spend their money at wal-mart and Best buy.

Actually now is the time to run well thought out promotions. Maybe don't be so against something that you may not have the best understanding of.

Kids are back in school there are going to be parties and events this time of year because of many holidays. This means it is a great time to get tanners back in the salons.

If you are afraid of running specials because you think it devalues your product, structure the offer in a way that it does not lower the price of tanning. Make it a customer appreciation promotion that gives tanners a gift card and stipulate how it may be used. A $20 gift card will bring a lot of tanners in if you stipulate where it can be used on tanning services and couple it with a $10 gift card stipulated for use on lotions. Both have expiration dates.

Clearly you must know when, where and what to advertise in order to generate the results you are looking for.

Never listen to anyone that says don't offer specials, they clearly don't understand marketing.

As I have stated what you do for the next few months will determine how strong the 2015 season will be for your salon.
