Also remember your success during this time of year is also based on what you did during the busy season. It all goes back to having a great business model that addresses every month of the year. For those of you that are still experiencing declines in business, this is the best time of tear to evaluate your business and make all needed changes heading into the holiday months. Do not wait and do nothing again heading into the next cycle. Do something that will turn your salon around. It is not just about a promotion or special offer, it is about every aspect of how you operate and market your business. All salons should be showing heavy attention to the fastest growing segment of tanning. Spray tanning ! Spray booth or air brush, which ever you offer should be heavily marketed as it's own service, not as an add on to UV tanning. This has been a really solid year for tanning and no one should be showing decreases in sales and in most cases there should be increases YTD. If this is not the case, do something about it. | |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: Slower Months I hate it when I see such misinformation. This has not been a good year for a majority of salons. It wasn't for most last year either. (a survey was done on this site-look it up) I have really tried to be fair and open minded about this but enough is enough. This industry is in a death spiral. |

Rep Power: 14 | Re: Slower Months Two more local salons just showed up on CL...both have been in business for over 5 years...DESPITE what Steve says, "This has been a really solid year for tanning and no one should be showing decreases in sales and in most cases there should be increases YTD. If this is not the case, do something about it." It HAS not and will NOT be a profitable business for the smaller salons...only the major players/multi-chain operators have a chance of survival..and I question their longevity 5 years from now. This industry, as Dogfan stated, "is in a death spiral." |

Rep Power: 17 | Re: Slower Months With the closure of some salons, begins the uptick of others. Partly of why we are on a uptick this year. 2 salons closed in busy season. Now, because we gained new clients then, we continue to grow our numbers over last year. As far as specials, I take my higher priced star packages and add a few stars to entice the larger sale, and add a few days to our monthly co pay to encourage that budget minded client a little added bonus without cutting prices. |

Rep Power: 11 | Re: Slower Months We as well are not down 10% actually up 100% and I have the tantrack reports to prove it. We market heavily on Social media and do our best to provide a ridiculous amount of customer service to keep them coming. Customers come in just to talk with the girls at this point but continue to buy packages so they have a reason to stop by. |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: Slower Months An individual salon may be up or down in a given year. That is a "micro" economic outcome. That is not the point. If two salons close and another benefits, then that is great for the one left, but what about the 2 that closed? Why did they close? Because the one that remained was better? No! They closed BECAUSE THE TOTAL POOL OF TANNERS IS SHRINKING! The area can no longer support the 3 stores. That is the point that you all seem to miss. You may be up this year, you may be up next year, but the total number of tanners in this country is shrinking every year. So the numbers game will catch up with us all sooner or later. The bottom line is that the indoor tanning industry is not adding or attracting new tanners fast enough to replace the teenagers who can no longer tan, the ones who are being scared away, and the ones who leaving this world. That is a "death spiral". |
