10% Off This Season

My Daughter's salon is seeing about a 10% decrease in business month after month this year. Is anyone seeing similar declines in business?

Re: 10% Off This Season

Our 1st quarter was off about 25% but solely due to the terrible winter weather. People wanted to go home and get under a blanket in front of the TV as soon as they got off work. We beefed up advertising and offered a special EFT deal in April and May. 2nd quarter was up over last year by about 20%. July is up almost 50%.

But under 18 tanning bans are going to bring a slow death to this industry if we don't stop it in its tracks.

I wish my declines were only 10%. How bout' 20% April, 40% May, and 60% June. July is only down 10% from last July. If I can average a hundred bucks a day this month, I'll consider this a good month. This considering, I've had a few goose-egged days this month.

Being that you are essentially dependent on college kids this is a true indicator of what will result from the under 18 bans for us all, whether or not your state has it. Teenagers and parents are being manipulated by this propaganda and if your customer base is mainly under 22 you are simply screwed. The rest of us will be too because those kids wont be tanning indoors when they are 23 - 60 either.

Yep, I agree with that. The Feds are having the states do the dirty work, just as if they had initiated the law themselves. As far as the law, we don't have the under 18 yet, and I have very few under 18 tanners. (very few tanners period) The writing is on the wall, and if I have to just close the doors, it won't be the "end of the world". My only expense will be disposing my equipment in the landfill. Come he!! nor high water, I will get one more year out of this business.

Under 18 seem like you all think if you are 18 you cannot tan. Well you are wrong. Let say you are 17 and few day you will be 18, yes you cannot tan at 18. But if you are 18 and 1 day you are able to tan.

Most collage kids are 18 + very few under 18.

Parrot Head you are losing it , seem like you threw in the towel sometime ago, and you still are trying to hold on, For what .You are putting yourself down . If you have to bring all your equipment to the dump, your equipment must be pretty bad, and you haven't invested in your self or your salon, for a long time. This cannot be the only thing that keep you alive you must have other things going on. time to pick yourself up and do the right thing get back in the game.

I don't know. Seems our college/campus salons seem to be holding on ok. Anyone care to comment on college/campus business? We are only partially dependent on college student business, but it is an important segment of our business.
