Re: Selling Salon

I wouldn't beat up on Steve too much. There are people who want to get into this business who need someone like him for advise. Where I have a problem with him, is when he starts beating up on people who have been in this industry for 10, 15, 20 years, who see where this industry has been and where it is going and choose to get out.

He says that 1) there is nothing wrong with the Tanning industry and 2) anyone who chooses to leave just doesn't want to change with the times.

That is just a blatant lack of honesty. And it makes you wonder about his intentions.

Re: Selling Salon

His intentions are to make money off the weak and infirmed. Isnt that obvious to most? Remember Dog he is not a salon owner and as far as i can tell has never been a successful salon owner

I hate to jump on anyone for their opinion; that is what this site is all about. But when someone jumps on others (vets of this industry) based upon information that is completely false, I have to say something.

Tony, Salon owners post on this site all the time trying to get someone to help them make sense out of what is going on in this industry. Steve almost always blames the poor salon owners for not being willing to change, when these people have spent most of their adult lives running successful salons in this industry.

I dare say that 99% of the people who post on this site are no slackers. They have worked their asses off in this industry and many have their whole lives invested in it.

To 1) blame them for their poor sales and, 2) accuse them of being undedicated to the industry, is just wrong.

The truth is that this industry has been through a series of horrendous massive shifts some self inflicted and some from the outside of the industry. These changes have occurred so quickly that many good operators have not been able to keep up.

When they come on this site to question this or vent their frustrations with conditions that are largely beyond their control, the last thing that they need is someone telling them that there is nothing wrong with the industry, the economy, or the public, they have no business plan and that they could change their situation with the right one, and if they weren't willing to do that then the demise of their business is their fault.

Is that a sufficient explanation?

Re: Selling Salon

HEY PEACH!!!!

You said a major Ala/N Florida chain was just bought out by PBT...??

Was that CLUB SUN???

If so, yes times are -a- changing...Club was one of the most successful local owned, non-franchise in the business..

You don't need to be a weather man to see which way the wind is blowing...

Yes, you would be correct. I do not know if the owner just bought the franchises for all 20 of them or whether PBT just bought them out.

I do know that PBT has paid Club Sun competitors in their area to go out of business essentially eliminating all other competition. Sun Tan city is also doing the same thing.

So, STC is approaching Atlanta from the north and PBT is approaching from the South. Look out Solar dimensions! Soon, there will be 5-6 large chains that basically control the whole US market. You think that distributors and manufacturers don't give a bleep about you now....
