Last Tan: what's your policy?

Currently I take my last admission at 15 minutes before close. If the customer is in the door at 15 minutes before close, then they get to tan no matter what the wait is or how many minutes they want to tan.

Other salons turn off the beds exactly at closing time or 5 minutes before, thus turning off beds in the middle of someone session. This doesn't seem like good service to me.

What's your policy and what has worked best for you?

All about service. If you are in the salon by closing time you should be allowed to tan your regular session.

I will never turn a customer away, if they arrive before closing time. I have had times, that a customer has been so grateful for letting them tan, they felt obligated to buy something. Payback is golden.

Agree. If your hours are 10-9 then I should be able to walk in at 10:00a and get a tan, and the same should be true at 8:59p.

If you want to leave by 9 - post your closing time as 8:30.

If they're in the door before 8 pm, they can tan their full session. Great customer service.

Re: Last Tan: what's your policy?

We don't have anything etched in stone, but expect people whom come in late, to allow the amount they intend to tan, to be that amount before we close. 15 minute tan, can be done 15 minutes prior to us closing, but we don't turn off beds on people right at close. Wish we could! Kinda get a chuckle outta that one. Good way to lose a client I think. For the best part when someone comes in late...we encourage a different, quicker bed. If it's 10 minutes before we close, we wouldn't allow a 20 minute session, but would a 12 min bed.

If they make it in the door before we lock it, they tan for what ever time they PAY for. Our workers are going to be there 20 to 30 minutes to close down the store anyway.

Re: Last Tan: what's your policy?

Yeah I found Darque Tan's policy below very surprising. Especially for such a large, successful chain. It's straight from their website.

"To ensure our employees are able to get out of the salon, all of our beds automatically shut off 5 minutes prior to closing. Employees are not permitted to extend this time for customers. Please ensure you arrive with enough time so that the bed does not shut off."

Re: Last Tan: what's your policy?

The shutting beds off is unacceptable.

Regarding a 15 minute cut-off, consider this: the clients who take advantage of coming in at 8:59.59 are also the ones that bring other issues: taking a bathroom break, taking full prep time, taking exorbitant amount of time to redress, talking loudly on cell phone, leaves the room a mess, drunk, etc. If it was random late comers, that's one thing, but usually the abusers bring a whole host of other issues.

I understand a 15 minute cut-off, but depending on your clientele and what they are conditioned for, you should probably just change the hours.
