Lurkers: Would you?
 

Out of curiousity, I would like to know if the many lurkers on this site would become more active posters on this site IF you felt that you could post w/out being treated disrespectfully or fear that your questions/comments would come off as stupid?

I for one very much appreciate Robert and Mods that dedicate their time, effort and $ for us to have this site to learn and exchange ideas. But, I worry that sometimes, we cannot see the forest through the trees.

By that I mean alot of us salon owners have had our businesses for a long time and have read and learned through trial and error, but we forget what it was like when we began and didn't have alot of the knowledge under our belts.

If you don't want to answer, I understand but I'm hoping some of you will?

I will answer this.
I read through the new posts often and I think that it's ridiculous how off track people can get when someone posts a basic question. Some threads have pages and pages of replies that have absolutely nothing to do with the original question. All certain salon owners want to do is squabble over a whole lot of nothing. How and why do people have time to sit on here constantly and post irrelevant responses- I don't have time for that and I have 1 salon!
If someone does have a response that happens to be related to the post, it more often than not contains sarcasm and/or a doom and gloom outlook.
As a "newbie", it's very discouraging and sad that people come here for honest advice and wisdom and this is what they get.
I am sure there are a lot of "lurkers" such as myself that could use more input on things but don't dare because they will either get a response that is either sarcastic or just start another squabble between people that have nothing better to do with their time then sit on a computer night and day looking for an argument.
So the answer to your question "Lurkers: Would you?" is:
No way!

Like in business I don't worries about the other, I worries about what I am doing to improve my business, same should be as posting on this site, why care if you get bash, no question is stupid, only answer by stupid that want to put you down , oh by the way, we never met.......

There is one person on this site that I have observed in particular always has an input whether it be valid or not! They will argue you to death. That being said some people dont always come across as friendly regardless and the fact that we are reading the words means we understand it in different ways. i.e. "you didnt even know about the tan tax?"
could be taken as "oh you didn't know about the new tan tax" or "how could you not know there was a 10% tan tax"

just my opinion

Tony and peach simply take over most threads. would be a better site without them. Peach got banned from another site....think tony did or simply chose to leave which has been for the better in my opinion. Would be nice to post, and get direct response's on the agenda at hand.

Crosby & Sunrise thanx so much for weighing in. I think it's important for the site owner, moderators and members to get these perceptions.

I do more lurking than posting, but have been on the site for several years now.

My time is valuable and I don't have much of it that is free. I find that when I pull in to a thread to see what is being asked it is often hard to see who or where the gem of information is at as you have to wade through so many people getting their feelings hurt. I do a lot of skimming of posts to try to get the information that I am wanting, but sometimes a bit harder to do than others.

Also, very few of us have actually met in person and I find it silly that so many people get bent out of shape because of the replies that are given. Supposedly we are adults. Get over it. You don't like what is being said? Skip it and go to the next post until you find the answer you are looking for that actually does pertain to the question on hand or the question that you are thinking of.

Also, it wastes my time to post something that 4 other people have already said. I might if only posted 1 time, just to say I agree, but when multiple people have already "agreed" I move on. I feel the point should be taken by then.

To say I take over threads with Peach is simply ridiculous. Go back and
see how many threads i participate in? 4 or 5? And Peach? Almost all
of them. I cant take over a thread when its been hijacked by peach.
