Inclement Weather Policy

After a crazy weather will level 3 snow emergencies I felt a little unprepared on how to handle closings and crediting back packages. I want to make a checklist and implement a policy for inclement including storms.

Last year we had a few tornado watches and the sirens where going off and customers were coming in expecting to be tanned.

I would like to put something in writing anyone have a policy in policy they would like to share?!

Thank you!

Although I would never put it in writing, I do offer to add extra days to a customer's unlimited package if they ask. This situation would happen if we were closed for a long holiday weekend like what just occurred this past weekend. If they don't ask, I don't tell.

Ditto, we also post on Facebook when we close. We RARELY close and almost never have anyone ask for additional time.

Not really comparing apples to apples here. Banks aren't as flexible, as a tanning salon, and we need all the customers we can muster. It costs very little to extend a package, and the rewards far out way that.

Re: Inclement Weather Policy

Here how I see it . We have the best beds and the best prices , a unlimited is 30 days from date of purchase, we figure 4 tans a week, a month that 12 tans and you come in and say you owe me 2 days, for you were close......nothing for free, it cost you $$$, I am in a business to make $$, I know I am not going to get rich , but dam if I am giving away my services, I be putting myself out of business. Example Have a customer that tan every day, for 30 days. He cheap doesn't buy anything, want free lotion and goggle, I was doing a special , this is the only time he come in. One day I was at the store he say to me why am I getting rid of that special, I told him if I have customer like you , that buy nothing and want everything, I might as well close my door. He still come to the store only when I run a special, and he not the only one. Now don't tell me you don't have customer like this....

You taking it to personal. IMO when you have customers asking that you're either running too many specials already and they expect it or you have too many cheap customers.

Every once in a while I get this question and I just say "we post our specials on Facebook, keep an eye out for them". Knowing I have no plan on putting one on there. They eventually buy a package at the going rate or go away.

Re: Inclement Weather Policy

I do currently list that we are closed for all major holidays and tanning is not credited back on our policy board as well as our website. But, for the weather issues when we have been forced to shutdown because of Level 3's I have just played it as came... Most days we were able to open for aleast 5 hours so those days I don't feel I should have too, but for the days we were never allowed to open I can see the customers side, but my hands are also tied and I would much rather be open! Most customers get it, while a few other ones think I am really cheating them. I guess its one of those case by case situations. Thank you everyone!

Re: Inclement Weather Policy

On the flip side...I was open this past Easter..to support the grand opening of a business next to me (church) and I caught more flack from customers about that..who were happy to express it on our social media. We have had city power outages due to lightening strikes and all I hear is...well u need to comp me something. Like I control Mother Nature...but true saying in that u can never please everyone.
