As a business, salon owners are left to defend for themselves.

I have not found one tanner complaining about a 10% tax..want your nails done, you pay a tax, need a haircut; pay a tax, workout in the gym;pay a tax, like that new outfit;pay a tax.

It is expected.

If business is down, traffic is down, perhaps one should look at the gas prices. Perhaps, less trips out due to cost of gas is a reason...just over night, gas rose $.03 a gallon in Atlanta, topping out at $3.75. if business declines, it won't be due to a tan tax.

It could be less trips to tan.
I know you are smarter than this! "No one complains about the tanning tax", duh, they don't complain, they just buy the $20 lotion instead of the $40 one, or they quit tanning in June instead of July. They don't have to complain or even blame us. They just do what any normal person would do; they reduce spending to make their money go as far as it can.

In ECON 101, they taught us that there were different types of consumer spending; non-discretionary (ND) and discretionary (D). ND-is the stuff you buy just to survive; D-is the stuff that you like, but do not need in life. Now of the D, there is also a separation that occurs especially when prices of a good or service goes up in price. This phenomenon is call substitution. Substitution occurs when people find a cheaper substitute for a good or service that want but don't need. This occurs quickly, when there are cheap and easy products or services to substitute for the higher priced one.

Our country is awash in cheap used tanning equipment, we compete with the sun and sunless products and services already threaten to cannibalize our industry, and we have one of the biggest propaganda machines on the planet aimed right at us.

Now, for all of you folks that think it doesn't matter how much your products or services cost or how much we are taxed, better wake up and smell the coffee.

Kind of personal, don't you think??

I have 3 different businesses, all doing well.....if they weren't running as I'd want, I would not be here..I'd be working them...but they are all in good and trustworthy hands.
