Safeway Coupons

Have any of you tried advertising through the coupons that print at the registers? In our case, the Safeways around here have a separate printer that prints 1,2,or 3 coupons when you checkout. I personally look at them and was curious what you guys think of that program.

It's roughly $200 to $400 per month for at least 1 year contract. Thoughts?

Re: Safeway Coupons

I am a coupon User. But I have to say I have never used one of those. I think out of the thousands I have been handed I maybe have looked at two of them. I never knew they had anything on them but discounts for cheerios and such. I had no idea they sold outside ads. Interesting!

I don't do contracts for anything I don't have to. That's a lot of money to tie up if u see they are not workin after two months. Spend 400.00 passing out fliers in thier parking lot first.

Proven to be an absolute terrible form of advertising. $200 to $400 a month can finance an incredible text, email and social media advertising campaign.

Re: Safeway Coupons

Tops Supermarket uses these forms of coupons, but in a whole different fashion. Instead of printing coupons for customers, they print local businesses Ads on the back of the them.

Buy something, get a receipt printed with ads lol. Smart move for them. Costs around $250 for 6 weeks to have your ad printed at a 3" by 3" little block.

This is a cash cow for the supermarket as it's only more trash the customers deals with and never looks at.

This was our response to a marketer that tried to sell us on this a few months back...

Doug,

After analyzing the demographics data for (our small town), we feel that this would not be a good fit for us. The ROI threshold isn’t met.

We used the information below to conduct our analysis:

The population for (our zip code) is 14,000ish at best. The available pool for us is below:

White population: 9,520

51% being women: 4,855 women
Up to 10% MAX of population tan: 485 white women that tan
1% will see ad: 4 white women that tan that will see ad
1% that will act: .5 white women that tan that will see ad and act on it

If we get between 1% to 10% ROI we pay $100 to $425 per person BEST to worst case. This assumes every person in (our zipcode) shops there which isn’t the case but doesn’t take into account the minimum of white women in (a neighboring town).

Bottom line is at this time I believe this wouldn’t be an effective use of our marketing funds.

Thank You,
Tanning Salon

He stopped his sales process and is a customer of ours. If my information was incorrect he would have proved it to me but that wasn't the case.
