Rep Power: 0 | advertising I am currently working on opening a 24 hour tanning salon in Atlanta, Georgia. I was just wondering how many active clients you average a month. There is only one other tanning salon in the area and I've only heard negative things about it. Our location is amazing and the area itself see's more than 17 million tourists a year. I know that isn't our client base, but it will be directly across the street from the main entrance of the biggest mall in Atlanta. There are approximatly 2,000 women from the ages of 17-44 in 5 miles. How many of those women do you THINK might come tan. And what advertising methods have worked best for you? Thank you for your help! |

I have been living in Atlanta for 45 years..Great City...nobody knows it better than I..seriously there is NOWHERE in atlanta that 'sees' 17M tourist a year...the city could not hold that many people...what are you smoking? 2,000 women btw 17-44 within 5 miles...Where are you coming up with these facts? I have more people in my high-rise building....your questions are as off the chart as your facts

I am not trying to be rude, but a realist. Gwinnett has NEVER seen 17M tourist..what is there to attract 3X the amount of people that live in the 9 County region? There were several great salons in Gwinnett at one time, several locally owned with multiple locations. No longer. The ones that are standing struggle like everyone else. A good rule of thumb, based on industry standards, expect 10% of the local surrounding population to tan. So, based on your earlier post of 2,000 women, that is 200. With a number like that, if to be believed, you will close within 3 months of opening

You may also find that a 24 hour salon will be a disadvantage in terms of operating cost compared to volume of business. Lets talk.

Rep Power: 14 | Re: advertising Contact the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. They can supply you with an up to date, more accurate demographics report..and it is free. Also, at Gwinnett College there is a local SCORE and SBA office which offers free advice. ..and by the way, stop referring to 'opening a salon in Atlanta'..you are looking at Gwinnett..worlds and miles apart, and different business strategy needed.. Just fyi/ Tanning business in Gwinnett is pretty much saturated with some long established, local owned salons which are competing with each other for the little tanning population...Salon Dimensions, Outback Tan, Sun City Tanning..and I believe an Alabama tanning company, which has close to 30 salons in N Fla and Alabama is coming to Gwinnett....you will need some heavy financial backing/investments to remain competitive.. ..AND, I still stand by my questioning those numbers...If you truly did your research, my question of it would not be absurd. You may live in Gwinnett, but I SOLD and developed Gwinnett back in the 70-80s as a top Real Estate Broker..i sold a great deal of land/development there, incuding 110 acres on lake lanier, which is now a top residential/resort development...also worked as a commercial broker there...my reply is not meant to insult, but inform. Take the info for what it is worth: FREE |

Rep Power: 20 | Re: advertising I am not sure this person wants real feedback. Most people seem to want folks to tell them what they want to hear. I am not a big fan of 24/7 salons. With comp like Solar dimensions and Sun city, you will suffer from a lack of customer service compared to these guys. Do some google searches and find out who is within 10 miles of you. Then see what you will offer that they do not. If you have 2 or more within 10 miles of you, you better bring something different, sink significant money into it, and be willing to sit on it for 3 years to turn a profit. That is assuming no one else moves into your area like Palm Beach or Planet fitness in the meantime. In other words, that is a tough market, dude. |
