Be careful there; tanning is a luxury; the room should be large, nice and well decorated. I would not build a room smaller than 10'x10' for a bed and 8'x8' for a standup. Profit per sq/ft is important but this is not manufacturing, you need to factor in client comfort.

I am amazed that I still to this day see salons using cheap plastic patio chairs and cheap metal tables. If you spend $5k-$30k for a tanning unit, why would you only spend $70 to outfit the room???

I think you totally missed my point.

Extra space is NOT wasted space, it is luxurious; thus you can create a better experience, thus you can charge more, and thus you can improve your gross margin, thereby making a solid bottom line.

my response of not wasting space was not to your comment @house of tan. I am new to this forum chatting thing so i didnt realizeit posted it after your comment.

i dont have the room for something that large so either i am able to do a 6x7 room or i am not able to put in a bed. so id rather put in a bit smaller room then not one at all. I have been speaking to a few of my clients who tan and they have been going in and measuring the stand up rooms they are tanning in for me an the majority of them are between 6x7 and 7x8 and none of them have said that it was too small and they didnt see the need for more space. so although i see your point I also see theirs
