I have a customer that seriously resembles Tan Mom, except my customer doesn't use self tanner. I'm actually having other customers say something about how bad she looks and I know she tells people where she's tanning. Does this actually look bad on me as an owner? What (if anything) do I say to her? It's actually embarrassing for me that she is that tanned. She tans every day- 2days, maxed out in all of our beds and insists always on new bulbs.
She did just get back from vacation so I'm hoping her tan fades a little. It looks AWFUL!
Anyone else have one of these?

what sort of plan is she on?? just curious if its the plan she's on that entices her to tan so much on all your equpment?

No she's not. We sell minutes that NEVER expire. She could tan once a year if she wanted to, her minutes will always be there. I know she worked at a salon years ago and got a lot of tanning time in while she was there. When she stopped working there, she started tanning with me.

Your post insinuates that she several times a day at your salon.

It looks like you're in Canada, do they not have limits on the amount of tanning in a day? If not, I'd make it SALON policy that a customer can tan only once every 24 hrs.

You then need to educate this customer than she's over doing it. Obviously your other customers see it and your salon is allowing.

She only tans once I day. I would never let someone tan more than once a day and the system we use doesn't allow it either. But she tans every day without fail. I guess more to the point would be is there a nice way of telling her it looks awful? lol Or is it a "it's her skin, her body" kind of deal.

My post doesn't insinuate that she tans every day, i said she tans every 1-2 days.

You just cannot talk to some people, A waste of time and breath. Some will tan every day no matter what is said.
If you think she is harming your biz - fire her.

Ya especially difficult to talk to her when she worked in a salon for 5yrs. lol
Again, hoping her tan fades up after she's back from vacation for a week or two. When I saw her she was almost straight off the plane...and...wow.

Write her a letter. State you are concerned and would like her to have a 48 hour gap in her sessions. She may leave or she may listen. If you say nothing you are not a responsible operator. IMHO

I had a young girl that was brought to my attention that she would tan at my salon then go right over to my competitor and tan same day same hour! She looked like leather...I explained to her how dangerous and stupid what she is doing. Told her don't care which place she tans at, but pick one of us.. Funny thing she left me for a while. BUT I felt the talk was the correct thing to do. And her friends told her that she needs a "tan intervention!"
Well she has came back with me tanning again, she has not been tanning as much, looks alot healthlier.
