I was even more disapointed to be getting advise from non salon owners with tips like display your product openly in the middle of the salon, i have not owned a salon but learned very quickly if thing are within reach they seem to vanish when beds are cleaned or you turn away. no offense to them nor anyone who liked it i just did not take nearly as much away from it as i wanted to. |

While I generally agree with your post as most if not all of these consultants preach the same stuff. The above tip however is a great one. You need to make sure you set it up so that you don't get ripped off or that you at least minimize it. The fact is that if you get the customers to start playing with stuff, they buy it. If you sell $50k worth of lotions vs. $25k because there are less sales barriers; why would you care if you had shrinkage that cost you $1k? (That would be about 1 bottle per week.) What is your current retail/service ratio?

I have owned the salon since June 15th of this year. I had a member hear pull up the demographics indicating it was a great location. sales this month were up 58% from last year granted we are a smaller salon with only 7 rooms. Product to service ratio is pretty close to 20/80. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Downtown Nashville Retail boot camp Out of curiosity I pulled my numbers since I bought the salon. Below are my percentage of product I am not sure if this is good or maybe my service sales needs to improve although they have been steadily increasing. October- 22% product September- 22% product August- 29% product (our grand opening month) July- 39.5% product however I sold all the crap they left here which contributed to this number. My overall numbers since I owned the salon compared to last year are as follows Service Total Sales OCT Up 70.61% Up 47.37% Sept Up 29.41% Up 27.13% Aug Up 18.14% Up 5.17% July Up 21.85 Up 23.44% Every month prior to this they were down in Sales. Does it seem like my ratios are where they need to be with the exception of Aug? I think they look good but the last owners were way past retirement and just kinda gave up. |

If so, do you know what caused the massive spike in Oct.? I never cared much for tracking service + retail; I'd much rather track them seperatly.

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Downtown Nashville Retail boot camp The first number is service percentage up from last year and the next number is total sales up from last year (service and product). As for the spike I got 2 new beds that are getting a great response I raised my prices considerably but yet competitive with the very little competition in this area and each month we are doing about 30 new people a month which I know is not a lot. I am guessing mainly word of mouth that we are no longer the old salon and have great beds mixed with me dialing in the pricing properly. |
