How much of your business do you derive from people seeking Vitamin D? Everyone should be asking on their client cards the reason someone is visiting their salon so this should be pretty straight forward.

I've had no one say that they were tanning for vitamin D. I've had a few state that they were tanning because of "SAD".

I've never even thought to ask my customers why they are tanning. We ask new customers how they heard about us but not why they are tanning. I'll have to give it some thought but off the top of my head I can't think of a benefit. Enlighten me Sir Robert...

Your sales people will then know what to sell them:

Going on vacation in one week
Trying to maintain a tan in the winter
Visiting from out of town and need a tan
Getting married in a month

Best question you can ask!

Misunderstood your intent. We always ask questions to determine the best "package" to meet their needs. I thought you were going for things like:

tanning to look good
tanning to get Vit D
tanning for skin condition
tanning for the halibut

only occasionally does it come up in conversation. i've always felt the majority tan because it feels so good...a few tan for vacation, especially this time of year.

99% of my cliants are college students. They tan to look good, and in turn feel better. I'm sure their attitude would be ho-hum if I asked them, if they tan to get their vitamin "D" needs.

Probably subconsciously, but few of our tanning clients know or admit to it.

I voted "I don't know."

I think I moved to San Diego for the sun though, including the mood elevation benefits of vitamin D!
