I stopped being open on Sundays, but I am debating now if I should open again for the busy season. My other 2 biggest competitors are, but Sundays were just too dead for me, although this is my first year. Do some of you have different hours during the year?

When I bought my old salon, it was closed sundays. I tried for a year and saw maybe 5 tanners. then I tried open during busy season...same. I then just stayed closed sundays year round

We run specials on Sundays to help bring people in and it has always worked out well enough to make it worth it and even though it has never been a busy busy day a lot of customers ask if we are open on Sundays so I think it helps. We are open Sundays for Peak season 11-4 Off Peak season 12-4

Saturdays and Sundays were BOTH slower for us, until we implemented "Super Single Saturdays and Sundays".

Half off walk-in visits.

So rather than $7 - 35/tan it is $3.50 - $17.50.


Off-season we cut back slightly - to 12 - 5.

In season 11-6.


In a typical Sunday, less than 20% of our customers use a base bed. We typically have 1 - or 0 - customers that do a "super single" Level 1 bed. Our HP is the most popular because "it is such a good deal!" And yes - many of those customer do NOT tan with us during the week - and they didn't BEFORE we offered that special either. We have taken away customers that used to tan at other salons. Including those that are "closed Sundays" when THEIR customers pull in to tan.

I am definately going to do the 1/2 price walk-ins for Sat and Sunday. Great idea!! Anything to get people coming in the door is better than spending hours without seeing a single tanner. Do you do anything for the weekend regular tanners who own packages? I have 1/2 price upgrades on Sat and will offer that Sun as well.

If a customer has a package that is more expensive than the special (for example they bought 5 visits for $70 and a 1/2 single is $8 then we will let them know and ask if they would like to "save" their package today and just purchase a single instead. Some do - some don't.

We only offer 1/2 upgrades once a week - on Wednesdays. Our "regular" customers can take advantage of that one - doesn't really help a walk-in tanner.

Each day we have a daily special. Some "apply" to you, some may not. Our customers are ok with that.


The Super Single Saturdays and Sundays brings in a different clientele. They are people that, for the most part, don't identify themselves as "regular tanners", don't want to buy a "package", don't stick with just one salon.......but will come week after week and use our nicer equipment. They usually START as someone who was with a competitor (but they were closed and we were open....) or a customer that USED to occasionally use our less expensive units - and now prefer to "spoil" themselves on the weekends doing our best beds!

Works for them, works for us!
