Rep Power: 16 | New one on me...thoughts? Just had this happen. Had a lady purchase a Mystic tan package and the attendant was showing her how to use it and explaining the technology. The client disclosed that she had a heart defibulator and can't have MRI's or anything that has a magnetic field. She said that she found this out because she recently had done a CT scan and her heart went into 232 beats per minute. So obviously, we refunded her package immediately but was wondering if anyone had anything similar happen and if not, just to be aware!

You know the kind were you rub your hand on cloth and then shock someone. Tell me you did not really believe there was a magnetic field in the Mystic.

Rep Power: 16 | Re: New one on me...thoughts? Quite frankly I wasn't positive enough to chance anything because I had to make a fast decision on the spot. I guess that's kind of why I'm posting this to understand MagnaTan technology, what it means exactly. Since it has a grounding wire attached to the plate, I wasn't sure if this would effect her or not. Hotstuff can you explain it a little to me?

Rep Power: 21 | Re: New one on me...thoughts? It is static electricty. You know how you can take a balloon and rub it on your shirt and then stick it to a wall and it stays there. Same concept. The static electricity attracts the solution to your body. That is why the longer you stay in the Mystic the more solution collects on you.

Rep Power: 16 | Re: New one on me...thoughts? Uh huh, I know that much. But I guess the part that worries me is the metal grounding plate with the grounding wire attached. That's the part where I thought it was better to be safe than sorry. Any thoughts on that portion?

Rep Power: 21 | Re: New one on me...thoughts? That is where the static electricity comes from. If you don't stand on the plate or the grounding wire comes off, there is no static electricity and the solution will not collect as well.

Rep Power: 16 | Re: New one on me...thoughts? Ok, gotcha. So basically, you don't think it would effect or interfere w/her in any way? I wouldn't imagine a different scenario, like say her running her feet along the carpet, building a static charge then touching metal effecting her, but I really wanted some advice on this.

Rep Power: 21 | Re: New one on me...thoughts? Incorrect, the static electricity is generated from a small box in the unit, the grounding plates or plate is what "grounds" you to the positive charged particles coming at you. More relevant to the question at hand is this: Does the manual or machine say to not do anyone with a pace maker or defibulator? If so, and you ignore that; you are setting yourself up for all liability should something happen. I personally do not take the chance. I am not saying that something would, I just personally do not think that losing maybe 10-20 sprays a year is worth opening up that kind of liability.
