Rep Power: 0 | Is this Hypocritical?? So a gm of mine is pregnant and pretty much stopped tanning indoors as soon as she found out. She is now 7 mos., and just this past week was outside for sometime and got quite a bit of sun. I have always took the stance to not argue with doctors and there wishes. But I always said then you need to avoid the outside sun too. So I mentioned her tan lines to her and she said it is different as her core temperature in a tanning bed would be much higher. For a 10 min session vs 2 hours outside? Weather the past couple of days was over 100 degree heat index. I call bullsh*t and care because of her position. Would not argue with a customer about it even though it happens all of the time. Had a friend from HS on facebook talk bad about tanning beds a couple mos ago while praising sunless. Well guess what? Shen mentioned on facebook a couple weeks ago how she got sunburned. Love the bullsh*t we have to deal with/ |

Rep Power: 25 | Re: Is this Hypocritical?? Unless you have poor circulation and A/C and fans in your salon, her "core body temperature" is not going to go up from using your tanning beds. Her doctor is wrong. As a test - bring in a thermometer. Take your temp before a tan and then take it again during or right after. Now - they sometimes also worry about you laying on your back (usually just when you get really big, and only for some) and/or getting dizzy when you stand up and fall over and hurt yourself. But that could happen in bed at night too - more likely than after 10 mins in a tanning bed....... |

Now there may be some very conservative people who will take precautions not tan indoors when pregnant or completely as a result of the electromagnetic field produced by the tanning bed magnetic ballasts or choke starters (I have read that electronic ballasts do not produce any significant EM field b/c but I'm not sure why or how this is other than the decrease in electricity needed to power the bed). However, this will likely only happen with people (like myself) who wouldn't even get an ultrasound on a pregnant mother unless it's an emergency. But as far as core temp. Completely erroneous, and without evidence. You will get far hotter outside in the sun for a few hours vs in a bed for 10-20 minutes, especially if it's well cooled. |
