I have been thinking about adjusting my hours for the summer.
My tanning is in with a fitness center that I own. I know a lot of people think that gyms that do tanning don't have the best of equipment or change their bulbs frequently but I think I am an exception. I sort of separate the 2 businesses and am sure all is in tip top shape.

With summer upon us I know that the tanning business slows down, this is my 3rd summer in the business. Does anyone else change their hours from winter to summer? And if so what are your summer hours? Just curious. I mean I don't want to upset people. But a month ago when it was cold outside I was having like 40 people a day and now I am down to like 10. It is so crazy.

We extend our hours March-July. Mon.-Fri. we're open an additional 1/2 hour to hour. Sat. and Sun. we're open an additional 2 hours.

when are other salons business times of years? Mine seem to be from April to June then it slows down.

That is pretty much season. It only last a few months, then it is into JASON.

When I had my salon I would open an hour early and stay open an hour later from monday after superbowl to 4th of july.

oh and if you are down to 10 people a day, what do you tan in the super bad months like november?

Does your software track tanning times? That is what helped me pick my hours. I looked to see how many peeps were tanning at different times of the day.

I have about 10 customers all the time. Sometimes more sometimes less. I know that Fridays are for sure my worst days. I don't use a software I have something I have designed myself and have looked through to see when ppl tan. Mostly nothing after say 4 usually except for maybe 1 person at like 630 or so. I hate to close early or change hours and upset people.

Well if only one person is tanning at 4, you are only going to make one person mad.

Can one of your gym people run the tanning part should someone want to tan? Might make more sense than having someone sit there for 10 peeps a day right now

Yes that is what I think that it is crazy to sit here. I mean the good part is that I do sign up gym members and get to work out withe people which is great :)

I am in Ohio. Not sure about other states but in order to operate a tanning bed you have to have a license to do so.

I guess the question I was asking is in general at most salons do people generally tan more during the early hours or later in the evenings. I mean I know what people do here at my place because of the hours I am open which is 12-8 or 12-5. But with the summer I am thinking of opening earlier like 8 or 9 and staying open till like 3-5 or something. I guess that is the questions I am asking. I am sure the reason ppl come in to my salon at the hours they do is that is the hours I am open.

I would get a rush of people at opening, then a rush at lunch and another after work. My friends salon is steady all day long...she has more stay at home parents in her hood, I had more working people and students.

It is really hard to say. Maybe send out an email with a survey for people to take. Or offer a survey at the gym on hours. Give peeps a free tan for filling it out.

Also, can one of the gym peeps get a license to run the tanning beds?

Being in Ohio............... Your season should run Nov. thru June.
