Re: Tanning Stupidity

It was just in the news feed. It was a "friend" that posted it and really thought he was helping get the word out.

I obviously commented, disputed with facts and posted some links for people not to be "sheeples" and buy what the Medical/Dermatologists money pockets are spewing. I encouraged them to do their own research and make up their own minds, but unfortunately the antisun campaigners have more $ and are more united than ourselves, which enables them to reach the larger audience that won't really take the time to do a little homework for themselves.

I'm just flabbergasted at the lengths they are going to in order to feed the public misinformation. This particular one is very, very damaging to our business. Using the cancer patient that died from melanoma is a real tear jerker.

Re: Tanning Stupidity

OK, an update on how this is going...I am posting this on here because this person has way over 1,000 friends that are watching this video and I know that many people, not just salon owners are cruising this site for information, so I think the more education we provide the better:

Alan--If you using tanning beds or know someone who does, PLEASE watch this. THANK YOU.

‎"Amanda" is a 60-Second PSA about how Jaime Regen Rea's death caused her relative Amanda to stop tanning.

Turbogirl--OMG, really??? How about doing a little research here instead of taking what is being fed by the dermatology/medical money pockets???

Ever wonder why DOCTORS prescribe tanning and DERMATOLOGISTS actually have tanning beds in their offices t...o treat patients for: Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Arthrytis, Excema, Psoriasis, Vitamin D, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Prostrate Cancer, menstrual problems, osteoporosis, energy, depression, immune system.

The list goes on an on. Ask yourself why health/fitness clubs and DOCTORS exempt from the tanning tax, if it is so bad for you?

If you don't want to be a "sheeple" please read literature that has been studied by teams and teams of scientists and doctors: sunlighttruth.com or Indoor Tanning Association Like anything else: Melanoma is caused by over exposure, you know "sunburn" and most likely when you were laying out getting burned with baby oil.

All living creatures need light for survival, we need Vitamin D to be healthy.
---------------------------------------------------------------
An unrelated Facebook Friend (Vern)-- a PRIME example of the 10 % rule here.
......10% make the rules for the other 90%, and the other 90% are called ignorant haters and racist when expressing disagreement.

Original Poster(Alan)--Ok, before any more hot air spouts off - I am not 'sheeple', I am - so far - a survivor of non-tanning bed initiated skin cancer (basal cell) for the last 13 years. While I DO understand tanning beds have been given accolades for different ...medical & psychological issues, I ALSO know several young people who have been so 'intoxicated' with the idea of tanning that it nearly takes over all other priorities in life, like Jaime Rea. It may only be 5-10% of the total tanning bed customer population but they are out there. If posting this keeps ONE PERSON from going through all of the pain, suffering, financial deprivation, depression, physical scarring, and more that I have gone through or that Jaime went through - IT'S WORTH IT. PERIOD!! THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Turbogirl--Exactly Alan, yours was non-tanning bed related. Example: Have you ever sunburned your grass? I have... by watering during the too hot times of 12-3:00 when it's almost 100 degrees. Is the answer to cover ALL of your grass in your yard ...from the sun? No, because the grass would all die, every bit of it because the grass is alive and living creatures need sun to survive and be healthy.

I have doctors and oncologists that tan in my salon every single day. It is prescribed daily and insurance pays for it. Did you notice who paid for that video clip? Yes, the dermatologists that have the very same equipment in their offices to treat diseases, conditions and ailments and they are the ones that think they should be the ONLY ones to treat or use sunlight because otherwise it would take $ from their pockets.

While I absolutely sympathize with your non-tanning bed initiated skin cancer...I do not believe that having no light therapy, sunlight or vitamin D is really the answer here. The health risks of Vitamin D deficiency related diseases and conditions by far outweigh the skin cancer statitstics. I believe that smart tanning or exposure is. As I sit here and type, I have a "happy light" on that is again, Dr. prescribed.

Because I am disagreeing, doesn't mean I am trying to be ugly here. The message of absolutely no tanning or sunlight that you are presenting here by the Dr.'s, but they are prescribing just isn't making sense. Hopefully we can still be friends?
