Lost and Found

Curious to know what are you guys do with the lost and found items in your salon that pile up?

Of course, most of the time we know who they go to since it is found in the room and return it to them, but I still have a full box of jewelry, sunglasses, jackets, lotions, eye wear, watches and misc trinkets....even dead cell phones.

Was thinking about donating all of it since it is YEARS of jewelry and such and just tossing the items of no value. But perhaps someone has a better idea.

Anyone have a good philanthropic ideas for the stuff? Just imagine if a local charity asked every business to donate their lost and found items at the end of the year. WOW!

(Don't post the dumpster pic Brian!) ;)

Re: Lost and Found

If its over three months, jewelry is sold to a metals buyer. Last time I made $300 on two rings and a bracelet.

Re: Lost and Found

If no one claims it in say 90 days then they don't need it any longer.

Finders Keepers....Losers Weepers.

Pawn it, Ebay it or toss it.

What was the best thing you found & no one claimed?

Re: Lost and Found

I had a nice Rolex left with us a few years back, left it here for 3 mos. He didn't want to leave a phone number with us when he filled out his massage client sheet. He came back a few months later and I presented him with his watch (it was real, I had my friend a jeweler look at it) he was ****** that we didn't call him.

I told him THAT'S why we ask for a phone number... It's not like we are going to call you to hang out or breathe heavy over the phone...

Stupid ****.

Re: Lost and Found

Seems like the really valuable things get claimed right away and I'm glad because I just don't want to deal with anyone being upset about losing anything in our place.

I know I kept calling a girl that left a nice high school ring with her name in it. Anyway, I left a lot of messages on the answering machine. Then one day her mother answered and literally yelled at me and told me to stop calling her house and she had no idea where her daughter was and nor did not care....hang up in my ear. So much for trying to do the right thing.

Re: Lost and Found

found a nice diamond ring behind the bed during deep cleaning, could have been there up to six weeks. no one asked for it for three more months following, so I had it cleaned and gave it to my daughter. other than that, just junk.

did have a lady come in two weeks after her package expired and asked if I had her thong---EEEWWWW--NO!!! All underwear gets trashed is what I told her. and really, shouldn't she had known the same day at some point that she did not have her thong on anymore. maybe if she had called back after she left, but she didn't.

Re: Lost and Found

Do have a customer that does estate sales. Each year she takes the donated items after her year longs sales and does a big one and donates to local charities. Think I may go that route.

Well with being busy I am filling up the lost and found like crazy. Guess people forget they had an item.
