UV Nail light question

I was asked by a customer today about the UV light systems that are used in the nail salons to cure polish on finger and toenails.

I honestly have no clue. She asked if they were able to tan her hands because she thought it should be carried by us for hands and feet.

Does anyone know the specs on these things...output...UVA/UVB. Cannot imagine that they are very strong?

Re: UV Nail light question

They are between 4w and 16 watts a lamp. Tell her to stick with tanning at your salon and curing her gels at nail shop.

Re: UV Nail light question

I have a thread on them somewhere about the tan tax. As I recall the average watts were 9. I wondered why they weren't sin taxed. I assume that's why they used the terminology "to induce skin tanning"

Re: UV Nail light question

The UV lamps used in curing nails are usually just blacklights or blacklight blue lamps.
They have a bit of UVA, but really minimal UVB. They are worthless for tanning.

They come in 4W, 6W, 8W, 12W are the most popular.

Re: UV Nail light question

i was watching the show "The Doctors" and they were claiming that those little things were causing cancer. said the UV was Screaming off the charts.

they also bashed on tanning in beds, not because of the UV but because some College did a study on salons in NY going in and swabbing beds. saying they found Fecal matter, menstrol blood and other things.

"The Doctors" are stupid. There is very little UV in these Black Light devices. Next they are going to tell you to stay out of the Haunted Houses around Halloween time since they also use the same lights.

They could be refering to the Germicidal lamps that some nail places use to sterilize the tools they use. They are similar in wattage & size yet they have UVC in them to kill the germs & bacteria on the tools.
