Rep Power: 30 | Copper theft Tanning salon left cold after Clayton copper theft By Robert Salonga Contra Costa Times Posted: 04/28/2010 11:53:17 AM PDT Updated: 04/28/2010 11:53:18 AM PDT CLAYTON — Thieves left a tanning salon cold and underpowered this week when they took thousands of dollars worth of copper wire from the business, police said. According to a police report filed Tuesday, someone cut about 170 feet of copper wiring from an electrical box behind the tanning salon, located in the Clayton Station Shopping Center at the intersection of Clayton Road and Kirker Pass Road. Police believe the theft occurred between 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday. It was discovered after salon staff noticed that their tanning beds were drawing about half their normal power, said Officer Allen White. The value of the stolen copper was roughly estimated to be between $5,000 and $10,000. Anyone with information about the theft can contact police at 925-673-7350. |

Re: Copper theft Movie..is it covered by your insurance? It is bad enough that we worry about things inside being stolen....now we have to worry about the outside. Perhaps one day these folks will encounter a tremendous jolt of electricity. Karma! Can you imagine the headlines....Man gets "FRIED" at local tanning salon.

I'm in a shopping strip, and someone got on the roof and took the copper coiling out of 8 of the AC units. Now the units have to replace. Considering there has to be a police report, insurance claim, etc., I don't see them being replaced in the next few days. It's supposed to be 80-90 degrees this weekend, so I'm pretty lucky! |

Time to build some gorilla cages around them. It won't stop vandalisim from someone poking the coils out but it would not get stolen.
